2016 Academy Award Nominations, ‘Revenant’ Dominates with 12 Nominations

The nominations for the 88th Academy Awards were announced this morning, honoring the best in films released in America in 2015.

The Revenant scored a whopping 12 nominations. Among those were nominations for Best Picture, Best Director (Alejandro G. Iñárritu, third directing nomination and one win received last year), Best Actor (Leonardo DiCaprio, fifth acting nomination and no wins), and Best Supporting Actor (Tom Hardy, first Oscar nomination).

Summer blockbuster Mad Max: Fury Road came in just behind The Revenant with 10 nominations, including ones for Best Picture and Best Director (George Miller, first directing nomination).
