Allied Review

Allied is one of the most talked about and highly anticipated films of the year. It comes directed by Robert Zemeckis who some may know for his work on films such as the Back To The Future trilogy or Castaway (2000). Allied stars Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard. It’s a love story/spy film about a couple who meet in North Africa during a dangerous mission in 1942, during World War II. They later start a life together in England, but struggle to maintain it due to the war.

I wasn’t really sure how this film was going to be when I went in to see it. I haven’t really enjoyed anything from Brad Pitt for quite some time and didn’t know how his latest film would be. But the trailers looked really nice and it had a really great director, Robert Zemeickis, as well as Marion Cotillard too. It turns out that actually, Allied is one of the most entertaining films of the year.

In my view this is probably Brad Pitt’s best film in a really long time and it seems like a step in the right direction for the actor. Marion Cotillard has been quite good lately in all of her films and Allied is no exception, she bring her best to the role. The on screen chemsitry between the hollywood duo is probably amongst the best out there in 2016.

Robert Zemeckis really out did himself with the directing of Allied. My favourite thing about the film was the look of the sets, the costumes and everything that they created for the time period it was set in. Everything looked so beautiful and sharp on screen. There’s not many movies where I make a point of commenting on the sets, but Allied really deserves it. Every location and every scene looks perfect and the film is simply a joy to watch.

The film really is more of a drama than a spy film, although there is some elements of espionage in there, it’s used in a way to add tension to certain moments and as the film progresses things get more and more tense for both the characters and the audience watching it in their seats. I love having this feeling when watching a film and there just aren’t that many that get it right at all.

I found myself really appreciating this film, it’s one of the ones I’d say to go out and make sure you see this year. Allied has beautiful sets and costumes and the story is well told. The love story sections, as well as the war and the more tense scenes are well directed and overall Robert Zemeckis did a great job with it all. Both Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard also were fantastic in this film and the two stand out and deliver two very interesting and entertaining performances.

Allied is a must see film and one that I’m happy to recommend seeing at the cinema this year, it’s beautiful film to watch and one which I think many will have a great experience with at the cinema.
