Avengers: Infinity War Review – Spoiler Free

Avengers: Infinity War is the latest film in the Marvel movie franchise to be released and the 19th film released by Marvel taking place in the Marvel cinematic universe. Avengers: Infinity War comes directed by Anthony and Joe Russo who some may know as the directors of Captain America: Civil War or Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The film stars Karen Gillan, Elizabeth Olsen, Josh Brolin, Tom Holland, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Pratt, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Robert Downey Jr. Zoe Saldana and Tom Hiddleston.

Going into this film, I wasn’t sure really if it would be that great. To me, when I watched all of the trailers and saw all of the many ads for it, I felt that it was basically just a film with a massive battle towards the end, with everyone in it and it was going to be some sort of cameo festival. The film has 64 main characters in it according to IMDB and I just didn’t see what the appeal of having something like this was. But nevertheless I went in to see it, being a superhero film fan and all, how could I not?

I came out of the film quite impressed with what they achieved with this addition to the Marvel movie franchise. There’s very little disappointing moments and even though I can clearly tell that it is filled with cameo after cameo of heroes, it somehow worked and it worked well. Nothing felt at all awkward or had out-of-place pacing making some scenes disjointed like I thought it might, they all just sort of fit together and I guess that’s a major credit to the two directors. They certainly paced the film well.

I don’t want to go into too much of the plot at all in this review as I went into this film not really knowing all that much about it so I will be as brief as possible (skip this paragraph if you want to know nothing at all about the story). But basically what’s going on is that there’s a new super villain who has turned up and his name is Thanos (Josh Brolin). His goal is that he basically wants to create a devastating weapon which would put the lives of many people on Earth and the rest of the universe in danger, but the final parts of the weapon are on planet Earth and it’s up to our Avengers to stop him before he can make his weapon. But can they all come together and do it? As superhero films go, this type of plot is nothing new, it’s common in these stories for the villain to be wanting to destroy the world or universe and our heroes need to stop them. So there’s nothing really special with this, but there are some very interesting themes spread deep within this film such as an overpopulation theme and also a focus on death as well as a few others I won’t mention because it’s sort of spoiler territory. But if I could discuss them further, I would just say that it’s the themes under the main plot which make this film an interesting watch and one that would give you quite a lot of discussion points for you and your friends as you come out of seeing it this weekend.

Iron Man – Avengers: Infinity War Review – Spoiler Free

As an action film, Avengers: Infinity War delivers this better than most would this year. The film had action at the centre of its core and I think there are more action sequences in this than any other superhero film I’ve ever seen. Pretty much every single hero in this film gets into at least 1 fight and there are multiple fights happening across the whole Universe. There’s explosions, magic, fist fights, shooting and much more. The CGI is also quite good and I actually really enjoyed Thanos and the way this villain was presented. We’ve had CGI villains in films before, most memorable recently was the one in Justice League, but Thanos was much better done. In the film I was also very impressed with the new look for Iron Man which seems to get better every time I see the character in a new film and Spider-Man’s suit also had the same treatment. Both heroes had quite a few new tricks which made the audience in my cinema gasp as they saw a few of them get revealed.

It’s hard to comment on every performance in this film. But I had a good time watching both Robert Downey Jr. and also Chris Hemsworth in Avengers: Infinity War. The two have probably the more interesting characters in the mix and always seem to capture the most attention when either of them are on-screen. I hope to see them in many more films in the future. I also really enjoyed watching Josh Brolin and his performance as Thanos. I’m not too sure how much of the CGI movements were actually Brolin or just animated, but either way he was well presented and the voicing was spot on. Zoe Saldanna who plays Gamora had a lot more screen time than I expected her to get, but she was actually one of the standout actors in the film and delivered a strong emotional performance that I think many will remember for a while after leaving, her character had a lot to do.

Thor with his new best mate Rocket – Avengers: Infinity War Review – Spoiler Free

Overall Avengers: Infinity War is an exceptional action film which delivers everything a movie goer could want going in for explosions and special effects. The story is done well considering how many characters they had to fit into this film and things were well paced. The underlying themes and the core messaging within the movie will stay with people for some time after leaving the cinema and give fans a lot to discuss. The actors all do great and are all very impressive, with my favourites in this film being Zoe Saldanna, Josh Brolin, Chirs Hemsworth and Robert Downey Jr. I’m happy to recommend going to see Avengers: Infinity War, it’s sure to impress many comic book fans and also casual movie goers looking for some fun action at the cinema this weekend.
