Baywatch Review – Spoiler Free

Baywatch is a comedy film which is based on the very popular 90’a TV show of the same name. The film comes directed by Seth Gordon who some may know as the director that brought everyone Horrible Bosses (2011). Baywatch stars Dwayne Johnson, Zac Efron, Alexandra Daddario, Priyanka Chopra, Kelly Rohrbach and Jon Bass.

Baywatch is about a life guard named Mitch (Dwayne Johnson) and his team who are taking in some new recruits for the summer. When Matt (Zac Efron) shows up and joins Mitch’s group, things get a bit edgy between the two. Meanwhile a criminal conspiracy has taken place on the beach and it up to the lifeguards and their team to uncover it all. That’s about all you need to know about the plot, the lifeguards think they’re the ‘police of the beach’.

As a comedy film the plot of it all is okay, I don’t go in expecting any of the things in this genre to have much seriousness to them, they’re all mostly in good fun. This film is really no different to any of the other comedy releases of the year such as CHIPS or Fist Fight. It’s a simple plot, with a lot of set ups for laughs. Baywatch as a film has only a few things it offers its audience, boob jokes, dick jokes, awkward jokes and bunch of attractive men and women to ogle at for its entire run time.

I’m just going to be honest, even though this movie is not really the best thing out there. I still found myself enjoying it, quite a few times I found the jokes pretty funny and there’s no shortage of attractive people to stare at. That being said, the film’s main issue I believe is that it’s too long. While everything is fun, once we get towards the end and it’s all about ‘the misssion’ and the action sequences, I found myself not so interested and was waiting for things to wrap up. I heard all the good boob jokes already and I already sat through all the slow motion sequences. If only the movie had been just 90 minutes instead of nearly 116 minutes, I think things would have been a lot better.

I did however enjoy all of the main three cast actors. Alexandra Daddario looked beautiful in this film and won’t disappoint anyone really with her performance in this film, although I would have liked to see more scenes with the actress in it. Zac Efron for some reason displays to the world how good his abs currently are and I think sections of the audience will love it. Dwayne Johnson plays the role of the group’s leader and for some reason it’s almost impossible to dislike him, he just across as always a likeable persona in all of his films, even if they’re bad. The other cast members are a bit boring though, I couldn’t stand watching Jon Bass who played Ronnie, he had funny scenes, but he’s you know… an annoying film character.

(L-R) Jon Bass plays Ronnie, Alex Daddario plays Summer, Zac Efron plays Matt Brody, Dwayne Johnson plays Mitch Buchannon, Kelly Rohrbach plays CJ Parker, and Ilfenesh Hadera plays Stephanie Holden in Baywatch – Baywatch Review

Baywatch is a fun movie and it delivers pretty much everything that’s promised in the trailer. Throw in a bunch of boob jokes, dick jokes and some slow motion sequences to ogle at and you’ve got the Baywatch movie. But things drag on just a little too long for me, it’s fun and people will have a good time and have a bit of a laugh. But it just drags too much. Alexandra Daddario, Zac Efron and Dwayne Johnson are all incredibly likeable personas and they make the film watchable, it’s hard to dislike this bunch, what they give audiences here is just a bit of fun and there’s not much wrong with that.
