Beetlejuice 2 is getting closer to existence: Mike Vukadinovich (Rememory) has been hired to rewrite the script, according to Deadline.

Seth Grahame-Smith (The LEGO Batman Movie) was first reported by Deadline in 2011 to be involved with producing and script duties. He remains a producer on the sequel to the 29-year-old original.

The original’s director, Tim Burton, and star, Michael Keaton, are said to not have a deal with the movie yet, but Deadline says they are looking forward to working on it together. The two are currently filming a Dumbo remake.

Beetlejuice told the story of a recently-married couple (Alec Baldwin & Geena Davis) who tragically die in a car accident, but are still stuck in their house for 125 years. They want to scare away the new owners (Winona Ryder, Catherine O’Hara & Jeffrey Jones), and enlist the help of the eccentric ghost Betelgeuse (Keaton) to do so.

The film was the 10th biggest box office hit of 1988 and spawned a few video games, a bunch of Universal Studios theme park shows and an animated series that ran for four seasons. Oh, and a musical is in production.
