Blu-ray Releases: 4/21/13 – 4/27/13

This week on Blu-ray: Australians net three new Blu-rays while Americans get four. But, here on Resident Entertainment, we believe in quality not quantity.

AUSTRALIA RELEASES

People Like Us arrives on Blu-ray this week. People Like Us was a box office failure here in the US and didn’t appear to even come out in Australia although I could be wrong. I personally thought the movie was okay and you can read my full review by clicking here. The Blu-ray does not appear to come with a DVD or Digital Copy.

Les Misérables comes out on Blu-ray this week. Les Misérables was a huge success worldwide grossing over $437 million. I really liked Les Misérables and you can read my review of that film here. DVD and Digital Copies don’t seem to be present.

Finally, the awesome Wreck-It Ralph comes to 3D and 2D Blu-ray this week. Wreck-It Ralph was also a huge success with over $471 million worldwide. I reviewed the Wreck-It Ralph 3D Blu-ray and I loved it. It has a solid presentation and good bonus features that should please the Wreck-It Ralph fan that you should be. You can read my full review here. The 3D Blu-ray appears to come with a 2D and 3D Blu-ray and a Digital Copy. The 2D Blu-ray comes with a DVD and Blu-ray (no Digital Copy). It’s worth noting that the American 3D Blu-ray comes with a DVD copy so Australians might get a similar deal.

AMERICAN RELEASES

Gangster Squad comes to Blu-ray this week. The film was a decent success at the box office with over $100 million worldwide but had a budget of $60 million so it didn’t make too much cash. There doesn’t appear to be any special retailer deals for Gangster Squad. The Blu-ray comes with a DVD and Ultraviolet copy. You can see the review for Gangster Squad here.

HE NOTICED ME!!! HE ACTUALLY LOOKED AT ME!!! *faints*

A Haunted House haunts the Blu-ray shelves this week. A Haunted House had a teeny budget of $2.5 million so its $40 million domestically was a success for this film. A Haunted House doesn’t have any special deals but I can confirm it comes with a DVD, Digital Copy, and Ultraviolet so you can laugh at the potty humor and slapstick anywhere your heart desires.

Probably not a bad idea to go into this movie with some help.

Jurassic Park 3D comes out on Blu-ray today for some reason. The film is in more than 2,000 theaters here in America at the moment so it’s strange that the film is coming to 3D Blu-ray today. You get a 3D copy, a 2D copy, a DVD, a Digital Copy, and an Ultraviolet, the whole nine yards. It’s worth noting that you can purchase the entire trilogy on Blu-ray or all of them separately. I thought the 3D conversion was fantastic and you can read my thoughts on the 3D conversion of Jurassic Park here.

The look on my face while seeing Jeff Goldblum in IMAX 3D.

Finally, Promised Land comes to Blu-ray this week. This Matt Damon box office disappointment comes with a Blu-ray, DVD, Digital Copy, and Ultraviolet. No retail exclusives seem to be present.

Resident Entertainment recommends you call the police if this happens to you.

That’s it for this week. With four new releases it might seem like America won but I wouldn’t exactly say that. Jurassic Park is an incredible film but is already available on 2D Blu-ray. The other three films have done poor critically. Australia gets the decent People Like Us, the very good Les Mis, and the awesome Wreck-It Ralph. We gotta give it to Australia.

WINNER: AUSTRALIA
