This week on Blu-ray: Australians net one new movie while Americans get three new releases and a “classic” brought to Blu-ray.
AUSTRALIAN RELEASES
Life of Pi comes to Blu-ray this week. The Oscar winning Adventure is one of the biggest films of 2012 with over $608.7 million worldwide and still counting. I reviewed the 3D Blu-ray of Life of Pi and you can check out my review of that here. Life of Pi does come with a DVD and Digital Copy.
AMERICAN RELEASES
Jack Reacher comes to Blu-ray this week. The Tom Cruise Crime Drama was a box office success with a $60 million budget and making $216.5 million worldwide. There is a Best Buy Exclusive although it’s unclear what’s so exclusive about it. The Blu-ray comes with a DVD and Digital Copy.
Mama arrives on Blu-ray this week. The Guillermo del Toro produced Horror film was a huge success making $141 million worldwide on a budget of $15 million. There are no retailer exclusives for Mama. The Blu-ray comes with a DVD and Digital Copy.
Safe Haven comes to Blu-ray this week. The Nicholas Spark based Romance is still in over 100 theaters here in America and is already a success with $71.2 million on a budget of $28 million. Target has an exclusive Bonus Disc filled with more Nicholas Spark “fun.” Safe Haven comes with a DVD and Digital Copy.

Finally, An Officer and a Gentleman *FINALLY* comes to Blu-ray (* = sarcasm). The film won two Oscars in 1982 including a Supporting Actor win for Louis Gossett, Jr. Why it suddenly came to Blu-ray is beyond me. No retailer deals and no DVD or Digital Copies are inside. Die hard fans are probably disappointed.

That’s it for this week. Even though Australia only gets one release, America got such mediocre releases that Australia takes home the gold.
WINNER: AMERICA
TALLIES FOR THE YEAR: AUSTRALIA (2) AMERICA (1)
