A Borderlands movie is in development at Lionsgate from producers Avi and Ari Arad.
Avi Arad has mostly had his hands in the world of Marvel movies with producing credits on all five Spider-Man films, both Hulk movies, and the three Fantastic Four movies with his son Ari Arad joining him on both Ghost Rider films and Iron Man. In the realm of video games, the two are also producing the Uncharted movie currently slated for 2017 and a Metal Gear Solid film.
Will the story be taken from any of the existing Borderlands games or is it a new tale set in that universe? Will it be an animated movie in the style of the games or a live-action feature? Who’s directing? Who’s writing? When’s it coming out? Will it be tied to the release of a new game? Oh god is Claptrap in it? I don’t know man, just watch this ancient gameplay trailer for the first game.
The first Borderlands game was released in 2009 to critical acclaim and high sales. Two sequels followed and the series has now shipped over 26 million copies.
The last Borderlands game, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel!, was released in October 2014 and Telltale’s episodic adventure game Tales from the Borderlands just had its fourth episode released last week with the fifth and final episode expected to come out before the end of 2015.
A new Borderlands game was announced in January 2015, but a release date is unknown.
