Cry Macho Review

Cry Macho is a film which comes directed by Clint Eastwood, who some may know as the director of films such as The Mule (2018) or American Sniper (2014). The film stars Clint Eastwood, Eduardo Minet and Natalia Traven.

According to IMDB, the film has the following synopsis “A one-time rodeo star and washed-up horse breeder takes a job to bring a man’s young son home and away from his alcoholic mom. On their journey, the horseman finds redemption through teaching the boy what it means to be a good man.”

Cry Macho Review

I’ve always enjoyed Clint Eastwood movies, he’s been around making movies for a long time and they’re always very entertaining. In the last few years, he has often been directing and starring in his own films, with some of those being great. The Mule (2018) is one of his recent films which I highly recommend seeing. Cry Macho is a good film to see as well, but the problem with it, if you’ve been following all of Clint Eastwood’s latest films is, well they’ve been so good lately that they’re actually hard to top. Cry Macho is a decent film, but just not as good as some recent works.

This film is a bit of a character-building movie, Clint Eastwood’s character Mike is an ageing tough guy, who is helping a boy to get out of Mexico to visit his father. Most of the characters you will meet along the way have questionable motives and are all a bit dodgy and their characteristics have rubbed off on the boy. Mike is there to fix that and takes on a bit of a mentor role.

I’m impressed with Clint Eastwood’s acting in this film, the actor is now 91 years old and it must be tough putting this all together and acting in it as well. He did a great job with this here and to be honest, I want to see more from Clint Eastwood, he does great work. Most of the other actors were unknown, but they did fairly well here. Eduardo Minett who played the boy was pleasant enough, which is good because I was really hoping the character wouldn’t be annoying.

If you can find this movie at one of your local cinemas, I recommend seeing it there. But as it’s in a bit of a limited release you might have to wait to rent this one or catch it on a streaming service. It’s worth watching once it’s there. Particularly if you enjoy Clint Eastwood’s work. I thought he did a great job with this film. It’s a bit of a slow film and the action scenes are very light, however, it’s good for a Saturday evening viewing as it’s not really an intense film at all.
