Frieza in Dragon Ball Super

There Are Some Spoilers In Our Dragon Ball Super Episode 111 Review – Episode Discussion

So the latest episode of Dragon Ball Super just aired and this one follows on from last week’s massive 1 hour special of Goku v Jiren. In this episode we see Hit from Universe 6 take on Jiren who has now defeated Goku and seems to be the strongest warrior in the tournament. What can Hit do against Jiren? How will he perform in this fight?

I guess at this point in this arc, Jiren seems to be the major complication that our characters face. Up until now, Universe 7 has been quite dominant in the tournament of power arc. Now that the 1 hour special has passed, Hit seems to be the only warrior out there capable of fighting Jiren.

For the most part Hit v Jiren is actually pretty great to watch. Fans I think have started to really like Hit and he has become quite the popular character since his initial appearance. Unfortunately for Hit though, his time skip attack is really very ineffective against Jiren. Jiren just seems to be able to counter Hit far too quickly every time he appears. It does become noticeable though that he does have a strategy, Hit’s ultimate attack. Basically he eventually lands an excellent punch which leaves a dent in Jiren and later traps him in a time warp. Jiren is completely unable to move.

It’s at this point in the episode though that I didn’t really like it. Jiren can’t move at all, he’s on the edge of the arena. Sure it is Hit’s fight, but he seems not able to hold him and also attack at first. I just don’t understand why he didn’t tell Caulifla, Kale and Cabba to Ki blast Jiren off the edge. Would it not have worked? Maybe. I don’t know, but telling them to leave and fight others left him completely alone. Hit later does use his own blast against Jiren and he just looks at it and blocks it somehow. After this it’s all over for Hit and he’s out of the tournament.

It’s a bit of a disaster for Hit, I like this character, but against Jiren, we know as viewers, it’s going to probably be someone from Universe 7 that takes out Jiren. Just who it is at this point, I am not sure at all yet. It’s likely Goku, but I am leaning towards thinking it’s a team fight comprising of Goku, Vegeta and Frieza.

The other interesting part of this episode occurs right at the beginning where Frieza, who we saw end the last episode with an energy blast aimed at Goku, ends up healing him with it. I was thinking there’d be some healing go on in here after Frieza mentioned what happened on Namek. I did get it slightly wrong last week, I had forgotten Goku did heal Frieza at the end of their fight with some of his energy. Interestingly Frieza does say that all debts between them are paid now and tells Goku about what he heard the Gods say about Ultra Instinct. Frieza did also mention that he’s interested in avoiding Jiren for now, what will he get up to instead? I do find Goku in this chat to be very quiet, I wonder what he’s thinking about?

Apart form all this, there’s a brief appearance from the Universe 6 Namekians who are up against Gohan and Piccolo. There’s also a continuing fight between Vegeta and Ribrianne, which for some reason keeps dragging on.

Overall this is a nice episode, but a little of a step down to the massive one we had last week. Next week in the previews it seems we are finally getting a big Vegeta based episode, something I think which has been lacking quite a lot in this arc. I want to see what Vegeta can do, we all know he’s incredibly powerful and has been holding back. Maybe it’s time he starts dominating the arena.
