There Are Spoilers In Our Dragon Ball Super Episode 95 Review Discussion
Episode 95 of Dragon Ball Super is a massive episode for the show. This episode continues on with the return of Frieza to Earth, where Goku is trying to take him to join the rest of the team in order to go to the tournament of power with Beerus. But in the process, Frieza and Goku are ambushed by some assassins from Universe 9.
This episode was nothing short of awesome. I don’t think there’s anyone in the Dragon Ball fandom that doesn’t like Frieza and the rivalry between Goku and Freiza really is second to none. In this episode we see that while in hell Frieza has gotten considerably stronger through what he calls “mental preparation”. His power is so strong now, that he quickly deals with multiple assassins, killing them all and sending them all into the sea.
Although Goku doesn’t agree he doesn’t do much about it, but eventually flies up there and chats to Frieza. It’s at this point that we learn that one of the assassins is hiding some energy from the Universe 9 God of Destruction, Sidra. This energy, like all God of Destruction energies, should wipe out anyone it hits. The dog assassin uses a couple of trick shots which Frieza blocks, but then out of the sea one emerges. Frieza is trapped, but shockingly, he escapes the energy blast. It’s amazing at this point how strong he really is.
The thing that I think is even more insane is that somehow Frieza manages to control this energy and is holding it and while Goku is distracted he puts the whole thing on him. Goku can’t even get out. Although I think it’s important to note that he doesn’t die from it either. Are both these characters stronger than Sidra at this point? It’s hard to know really, the energy used from Sidra here is only a fraction of his power. When Beerus later appears to save Goku, he just blows it away with the wind from his mouth.
Interestingly, while Goku is distracted, Frieza who is known this season as a scoundrel tries to negotiate joining Universe 9 as a fighter and leaving Universe 7 all together. Unfortunately things are interrupted when Beerus appears and the conversation is cut short. I found it also interesting that for the first time I think, we could hear what Frieza was thinking. We hear him thinking about the tournament as a chance to manipulate the Gods, what could Frieza have planned?
This was a really big episode for the show. I love seeing these guys power up and was super impressed with how strong Frieza has gotten. Even bigger was that there was a short fight between Goku and Frieza themselves for who could land the first punch. It was a tie and both got knocked out.
Universe 7 is now incredibly powerful with this new fighter. Not only was Goku strong enough already for the other Universes to handle, but it now appears they have to deal with Frieza who is about equal with Goku at this point. I think even bigger than this, is what is Vegeta going to think about all of this!
Next week’s episode preview looks like the tournament is about to start. We saw the stage finish during this episode. I don’t think the fights will begin next week, I think that will happen the week after. But I think next week we will meet a lot of new fighters and characters, maybe there will be even more surprises there.
But really, this was a great episode. It was full of action and interesting moments. I can’t wait to see these characters fight in the tournament.
