Dream Horse Review

I went to see this film just a few weeks ago at the cinema and it was one of my first outings back to the cinema this year ever since COVID shut down most things. So it was nice to be back. Although as I’m writing this review today, we’re back in lockdown here in NSW and it’s unlikely I’m going to be seeing any other films at the cinema any time soon. So getting a chance to see Dream Horse at the cinema was very lucky!

The movie isn’t too bad, it’s the type of movie I’d recommend to go and see on a Sunday afternoon. It’s not an intense action film or anything that’s noisy at all. Dream Horse is a pretty relaxing movie to go and see. The characters are pretty much just trying to breed a race horse and win a couple of races. It is based on a true story about a real horse with the same name. It’s a great community movie.

The cast that they ended up with in this film all seemed to be well chosen for the role. Toni Collette leads this film and plays the main character Jan Vokes, she’s great in the role. Damian Lewis was also entertaining. I was reading on IMDB while I was preparing this review and read that Catherine Zeta Jones was initially going to be cast in the lead role and eventually they settled on Toni Collette, it seemed like the right choice.

There’s not much else to say about this film to be honest, it’s a relaxing movie to watch and it’s not really an intense viewing experience at all. It’s a bit hard to get to the cinema right now to see Dream Horse at the moment, but it’s due to be released on DVD/Blu-Ray very soon and it might be worth watching it at home if you enjoy films of this genre.

Also if you’re very keen on the story of Dream Horse, there’s a book about it on Amazon Australia right here. If you want to get it on DVD you can add the film to your wish list on Amazon here.
