Drop is a film which comes directed by Christopher Landon who some may know as the director of Happy Death Day 2U (2019). This movie stars Meghann Fahy, Brandon Sklenar, Violett Beane, Reed Diamond and Gabrielle Ryan. The run time is 1 hour and 35 minutes.
In this movie, the main character, Violet (Meghann Fahy) goes on her first date in years, but it goes terribly when during the date, she gets bombarded with text messages from a maniac that’s in the same restaurant. Who could it be that would send such horrible and abusive messages to Violet?
I was excited to see this movie at the cinema. It’s a mystery thriller film and who doesn’t like watching those? Probably a lot of people, but for those who do like to see these kind of movies, Drop is probably the biggest movie of the year in this genre. I tend to usually watch movies like this at home and rarely go to the cinema for these kinds of films, but I did like watching this on the big screen.
The main thing about thrillers, is that they got to keep building the suspense up. With Drop, it does keep you guessing and does keep building the mystery of the maniac in the restaurant for at least the first three quarters of the film. The first three quarters are great. The problem with the movie I felt was with the final quarter, where it becomes a bit unbelievable and almost moves into action movie territory. I can’t really go into it properly because it will spoil the review, but it’s unfortunate how the film ends things in the end.
Meghann Fahy has most of the screen time and as the central character the story sticks with her throughout the whole movie. She was good, I enjoyed the performance from her. The rest of the cast are forgettable though. Even looking at the IMDB page after seeing the movie, the character names and actors just didn’t stay in my mind. I barely recognise them there.
I think that Mel Gibson’s Flight Risk is my favourite thriller film of the year, if you can still find it at your local cinema then go see that. But it looks like Drop is the only movie in this genre for this month to see currently. If you liked Flight Risk, you might also like Drop.
So should you go see this at the cinema this week? It depends on what kind of movies you like. If you like thrillers and enjoy a film with a bit of mystery, then Drop is definitely something you should consider. Drop isn’t a big action movie, it’s not a horror film with gore everywhere that will scare you too much. Sometimes you just don’t want that at the cinema every week, if that’s how you feel and you just want to put your feet up, watch a nice movie that’s a bit intense, but not too much. Then Drop is for you.
