Extraction Review

Extraction is a film which comes directed by Sam Hargrave, Extraction is his first full length film. The film stars Chris Hemsworth, Golshifteh Farahani and Rudhraksh Jaiswal. The film is about a mercenary that has to rescue the kidnapped son of a crime lord and he is hired to extract the boy from hostile territory.

When I first saw this film in my Netflix feed yesterday, I was initially excited for it because I could immediately see Chris Hemsworth was in it and he’s always very good. Sam Hargrave is an unknown directer, with Extraction being his first major film, so the movie I thought could go either way. I had no idea what I was in for with Extraction, but now that I’ve finished it, I’m glad I watched it this weekend.

Extraction is a strong action movie that focuses on a mercenary trying to get a kid out of hostile city. The two are constantly under attack and the entire film is a struggle for them to survive. For those with some pretty decent home theatre setups, Extraction will be an enjoyable experience this weekend. The film is full of gun shots, hand to hand combat, car chases and multiple other battle scenes. The gun fire sounds are great and the directing of some of the action sequences was well done by Hargrave. I thought the director did a good job to keep the action component of the film interesting and there are a bunch of great sequences that will put viewers on the edge of their seats. I would love to see another action film in the future from this director, my only complaint about Extraction is that it has a little bit too much shaky cam for my liking, but it’s not the end of the world.

The story is probably the biggest let down. It’s very simple, it’s basically just that Tyler (Chris Hemsworth) needs to get the kid (Rudhraksh Jaiswal) out of the city. There are some moments in the film where it attempts to build some back story and a past for Tyler, but I never really got interested in this.

The actors are all okay, Chris Hemworth is the stand out performer. Hemsworth plays a character which is similar to John Wick and is a one man army, he doesn’t say much, but he gets things done. The rest of the actors are okay and they do well for what their roles were, but I didn’t really see anything memorable.

Overall it’s nice to have an action film that I can watch from the comfort of my home at a time when all the cinemas are closed and we can’t see anything new. It’s great that Netflix is able to release something like Extraction, with good production values. If you are wanting to see an action film this weekend, I’m happy to recommend Extraction as one of the films that should be at the top of your list. Sam Hargrave did a great job with quite a few of the action sequences and Chris Hemsworth performed well throughout the film. Extraction will definitely give you a fun night at home watching Netflix.
