Fantastic Four Producer “Focused” On Sequel

It was widely assumed that Fox shelved the Fantastic Four sequel after the first one came out and performed poorly critically and commercially, but Simon Kinberg, who co-wrote and produced the first one, tells MTV that he’s “really focused on the next one.”

“I was obviously disappointed,” Kinberg said of the first film’s negative reception. “I was most disappointed that fans didn’t like it. I care more about them than I do anyone else.”

Kinberg hopes the cast is willing to give it another shot saying, “I do believe there is a great ’Fantastic Four’ movie that we’ve made with that cast. So I’m gonna figure out what that is.”

Released in August, Fantastic Four was panned by critics and in over a month of release has only grossed $55.3 million domestically, which is less than the original two films made in their respective opening weekends. Its worldwide total stands at $160.7 million off a $120 million budget.

In our review of the film, Bryan Weatherall said the Fantastic Four “deserve something better than the predictable two dimensional treatment they received.”

The sequel to Fantastic Four is slated for June 9, 2017.
