Please Note There Are Spoilers In Our Fear The Walking Dead Burning in Water, Drowning in Flame Review

So the latest episode of Fear The Walking Dead just aired. In this episode we go back to our core group at the ranch to see what they were up to this week as well as following Salazar (Rubén Blades) and Victor (Colman Domingo) on their journey to recover Ofelia (Mercedes Mason). A new threat emerges for the group on the ranch to deal with and it’s one that may prove a little bit of a challenge.

For this week of the show, I wasn’t too sure where they would take our group on the ranch. I wasn’t sure if Madison and the rest might leave this place or stay, but it seems after watching this episode that this is the start of them beginning to settle in there.

We get introduced to our first new relationship for this season with Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey) hooking up with Jake (Sam Underwood). There’s a bit where he tries to give her a book to read, but she doesn’t want it. She doesn’t see the point to reading it. The Alicia character at this time seems lost, we see her surprisingly jump off the cliff at the end, but just ends up in the water. Is she happy at the end of the episode? I am not sure, but as the episode opened with a suicide scene, I thought maybe the worst here for the end.

Madison (Kim Dickens) and Troy (Daniel Sharman) go on an adventure outside of the ranch to check up on some members of Troy’s crew. Turns out though they’re all mysteriously dead. We meet this old guy with his brain being eaten by a crow, it’s really disgusting and a bit scary. The group is eventually ambushed and we meet what I guess is going to be this season’s villain, some guy complaining about his land rights. I didn’t quite catch his name during the episode, but IMDB says it’s Qaletqa Walker who is being played by Michael Greyeyes. At this point in the season, the villain is mysterious, but I imagine he’s the same guy that shot poor Travis (Cliff Curtis) back in the first episode this year.

Another development of this episode is the story of Victor and Salazar. Although we got this big episode last week for Salazar and I kind of like the character after watching it, in this one I went back to disliking him. He just keeps wanting to find Ofelia, I understand this. But he’s abandoned his group he just saved last week and then later in the episode he abandons Victor at the hotel. I understand this guy is this one man army type of character, but really, can he really get that far without a group? What I’m more interested to see next week is what happens to Victor’s character in the next few episodes? Is he going to go back to the dam?

Overall I enjoyed this episode. It had a lot of things going for it, some almost a bit too gruesome and horrifying for me to watch. But it also had a lot of plot developments which should set up an interesting second half to this third season of the show. I am interested to see how all these characters deal with all the situations that started in this episode.
