Please Note: There Are Spoilers In Our Fear The Walking Dead Teotwawki Review
So the third episode for season 3 of Fear The Walking Dead aired this week. The episode was called Teotwawki and sees our group of survivors try to integrate into the group they are now a part of at the ranch.
In this episode I felt a lot of similar vibes to The Walking Dead series as the plot I think is similar to what we have seen with Rick’s group in the past when they start to live with a new group of survivors. Even though the main idea is a little similar, even though I’ve seen quite a few “Walking Dead” survival towns and variations, I always find it interesting to see what they come with for the new townspeople.
We get a glimpse of that this week as Madison (Kim Dickens) tells her kids to try a bit harder to fit in and get to know the rest of the people at the ranch. I think the more interesting part out of this was the experience of Alicia’s time with a group of teens. She gets invited to hang out with them in what she thinks is a bible session, but turns out to be a smoking one. The teens she meets there to me seem to be just a bunch of kids, sure they pull out a dead head in a cage, but they have no idea what it takes to survive in the world. When Alicia mentions she has killed someone before, I think they were a bit taken a back by it. Much like the softer towns in The Walking Dead, I think the people here just aren’t ready to survive as well as our main characters are, they’re mostly weak.
On the other hand though, there’s Troy (Daniel Sharman) who is one of the toughest members of the new town. We’ve seen him in the last two episodes already and know he is a bit of a nut. He goes on a bit of an expedition with Nick (Frank Dilane) and we see the two characters try to get on a little bit. Both are the strongest males in their group and both are a bit mad really. I think Troy though is lost at this point, there’s likely something really bad to come from this character in the future. Although I’m not sure where they’re going with him.
There’s some scenes that we get from Victor where he travels to a dam of sorts run by an old business partner, Dante (Jason Manuel Olazabal), who seems to have control of that area. Victor thinks at first he can trust Dante because of their history, but things quickly turn on him. I’ve not really seen Victor make a bad judgement in the show, he’s always so well calculated, but in this instance he got things entirely wrong and he is completely isolated from the core group as well.
Luckily for Victor though, Salazar ( Rubén Blades) arrives out of nowhere. A character we thought was long dead is brought back into the show. Why? I’m not sure. Will his return boost the ratings? What do the writers have planned with this storyline? All these questions, I have no idea the answer. We’ll have to wait for the next episode to find out a bit more.
Overall this was a decent episode for the season. We got to know quite a lot about the setting for the season ahead.Who the characters are on the ranch, what type of people they are. We also got a look at Dante and what his group is up to. We also got the return of Salazar. If anything, this episode gives us a good idea of the surroundings and setting for things in the upcoming episodes. It’s interesting that Dante controls the water supply, could this affect the ranch in the future?
