Final Fantasy Type-0 is right around the corner and Square Enix has released some new trailers for its release. The first trailer showcases more information surrounding the Type-0’s world, namely the countries and cast involved in the game’s events. According to the trailer’s narration the game will feature the largest cast of characters in an Final Fantasy game to date and will push the series maturity. It is unclear as to what extent and how well this mature direction for a Final Fantasy game will work, or whether it will pay off. I for one an interested to see how their first attempt at this kind of story will pan out. Although, judging my how the trailer is narrated it’s hard to truly get a feel of the game’s touted maturity. More blood and violence doesn’t necessarily make a gaming experience mature.
You can get a better taste of Type-0’s action-RPG movement and battle systems, so those who want more of an insight into how the battle system operates than give the trailer a watch. At 3:51 into the trailer there’s a brief glimpse of a menu, featuring the cadet Trey. Familiar stats include Fire Magic and Defense Magic, it also includes Accessory equipment slots as well as weapon and defensive slots.
Interestingly, Type-0 also seems to incorporate some tactical combat to win back territory lost to the enemy. It’s from a top down perspective with various soldier commanded by your cadets. Its inclusion should offset the combat offerings in Type-0 since it is primarily an action-RPG. The exact mechanics of how these strategy segments work is not discussed in the trailer.
The following trailer was revealed at this year’s PAX EAST gaming festival and is a cinematic trailer. Fans waiting on their pre-orders to arrive will surely start to feel some of the hype if they haven’t already. Enjoy!
