Daenerys in Game Of Thrones Season 7 -Game Of Thrones Stormborn Review

Please Know That There Are Spoilers In Our Game Of Thrones Dragonstone Review

So the first episode for the seventh season of Game Of Thrones has just aired. In usual Game Of Thrones style we see a number of jumps between the many characters so we can see what all our favourites are up to, without knowing too much at all.

The episode in the beginning featured what was the poisoning of the Frey’s or what looked to be the death of more Starks in the beginning. But old man Walder (David Bradley) is no more of course and it turns out that it was Arya (Maisie Williams) in a mask the whole time. While I don’t mind a good poisoning, I feel the pulling off of the face mask was like a scene out of Mission Impossible and to me seemed a little unbelievable, even for a world that has magic in it.

The Lannister family, or what’s left of them (it’s only Cercei (Lena Headey) and Jamie(Nikolaj Coster-Waldau)) spend some time trying to figure out what to do. It seems they are now weakened and have far too many enemies still, despite blowing up a decent chunk of them in last year’s finale. So it seems they must spend some time looking for new allies and find themselves in a bit of trouble now that the Frey’s met their demise.

One of the more interesting scenes of the episode was a scene with Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner). While Jon is leading or at least trying to, Sansa makes an alternative suggestion in front of everyone which makes him look bad. I feel that going forward here for the season that there’s likely to be some leadership conflict between these two characters and with Littlefinger (Aidan Gillen) there, I wonder if he’ll exploit that in any way.

The final and most interesting part of it all was Samwell’s (John Bradley) adventures in the library where he got up to all types of disgusting things before stumbling across a page in a book which revealed the possible location of Dragonstone, which the episode is named after.

As a series premiere this was okay and there are a lot of interesting plot points thrown all around the place for us to take notice of. There’s also the return of The Hound who had some of of the more entertaining scenes of the episode. With so much jumping between characters though, it’s hard to build up an episodes impact. It’s nice to see everyone back on screen again, but I think the upcoming episodes are where the real drama will begin.
