Ghostbusters Frozen Empire Review

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is the latest film in the long running Ghostbusters franchise. This film comes directed by Gil Kenan and stars Mckenna Grace, Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Kumail Nanjiani, Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray and Emily Alyn Lind.

I like watching the Ghostbusters movie and the originals are a favourite of mine. In recent years the franchise I think has been more of a kids movie to see and that’s not bad. This movie I think is a good movie to take older kids to see, it’s not too intense, has a few jokes and its main character is a kid. I say it’s good enough to go and see if you’re looking for kids movie to watch during the weekend or school holidays.

The movie isn’t scary and relies on humour a lot. The ghosts are all a bit silly and even the final boss ghost wasn’t really much at all. The jokes are good for the most part, it didn’t have me laughing all the way through but there’s some funny stuff in there to hear.

Where I think the movie could of been better, is maybe if it just stuck to focusing on a few characters instead of so many. There’s no point for Paul Rudd to be in this, the character he played did nothing for the story and same with Carrie Coon. It’s nice to have Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd in the film and it’s great seeing them on the big screen but it’s also maybe not necessary to have them turn up.

The movie really should have focussed on Mckenna Grace’s character, Phoebe Spengler and her friendship with a strange ghost that turns up in the street, Molody who was played by Emily Alyn Lind. Their story seemed to me like it could of went a lot further than it did, but it’s held back because screen time has to be given to other actors’ characters who need to pop in at certain moments.

As for the performances I only really liked Mckenna Grace and Emily Alyn Lind in this film. The rest are mediocre. The marketing also promotes Bill Murray quite a bit and his character only pops in and isn’t there all that much.

In the end Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is okay to go out and see if you have a need to go to the cinema and need something to take kids to. There’s enjoyable moments in this film and I still enjoyed watching it, despite the problems with the characters stories. I just see it as basically a kids movie that isn’t too bad to see if you must see it. Or just want to see it because it’s the new Ghostbusters movie and you love Ghostbusters.
