Godzilla X Kong Review

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is a film which comes directed by Adam Wingard and it stars Rebecca Hall, Dan Stevens, Brian Tyree Henry, Rachel House and Ron Smyck. This film is the latest in the long running Godzilla/Kong franchise.

I’ve been enjoying the films from this Godzilla/Kong franchise. The first Godzilla (2014) and Kong Skull Island (2017) were movies that were more serious with their tone and were epic movies to watch. Godzilla x Kong The New Empire is a film that isn’t really a serious movie, it’s become silly now. The story is very basic and easy to follow. Godzilla and Kong are friends (kind of) and they’re battling a new type of monster, which I won’t reveal too much. But I think it’s maybe the weakest monster in the series, it did not need Godzilla and Kong to fight this battle together. One of them alone could handle.

The actors are mostly unknowns and I feel bad to say they were bad, so I will just say that they’re forgettable. The actors and their characters are really just there to provide some exposition and to keep the story moving. The main characters are both Godzilla and Kong but because they can’t speak there’s random humans running around to fill in the story and explain what’s going on.

The main reason you would go to see this film at the cinema though isn’t for the story or the acting. It’s mainly just to see the special effects and the action sequences. This point is the main attraction and the film delivers this. You will see Kong on screen for most of the movie and Godzilla has a bit less screen time. There’s plenty of fights, explosions and all sorts of things to see. I enjoyed this part, it’s fun.

Overall this is a movie to see this weekend if you’re just wanting to see a action movie only. You want to experience explosions, hear the surround sound speakers at the cinema do what they were built for. If you’re looking for just this alone, then go see it. If you’re a fan of this film series, then yes, go along too but I think maybe it is the weakest entry because of the story. Not much more to say because there’s not much in this film to talk about. It’s a average action film and you might forget you watched it in a few weeks time, but that’s okay, it can still be a fun weekend out at the cinema.
