‘House of Cards’ Production Suspended Indefinitely

Production on the sixth and final season of House of Cards is suspended indefinitely, according to the Twitter account from Netflix, one of the show’s distributors, on Tuesday.

This comes amidst multiple sexual assault and harassment accusations towards Kevin Spacey, one of the show’s main stars and executive producers. Accusations include flashing, groping and inappropriate sexual advances. Some of them were to minors; one 14-year-old and a 17-year-old.

Spacey was previously scheduled to not be on the set, according to a joint statement from Netflix and Media Rights Capital, one of the show’s production companies, from Monday. In the statement, both companies said they were “deeply troubled” by the news.

A joint statement on the halting of production from Netflix and MRC was also released to Deadline. It further said that the suspension also lets the producers help with any issues the show’s crew may have.

“MRC and Netflix have decided to suspend production on House of Cards season six, until further notice, to give us time to review the current situation and to address any concerns of our cast and crew,” the statement said.

As for the continuation of House of Cards, news of spinoff ideas being thrown around were first reported on Monday. The plans for another House of Cards series have not slowed down with the accusations, according to Variety.

Spacey received two Emmy nominations this year for producing and acting on House of Cards, as has been the case every year since the show came out in 2013. He has a movie right now playing in limited release, Rebel in the Rye, which opened in September and has grossed about $375,000, according to Box Office Mojo. He next stars in Ridley Scott’s All the Money in the World, which is set for release in theaters on Dec. 22. Spacey also has a movie at Netflix on the way, although Deadline reports that its fate is now up in the air.
