Avengers: Infinity War lost about 55.5% of its domestic box office debut on its second weekend. The latest Marvel blockbuster took in $114.7 million on its second weekend compared to a record-breaking $257.6 million last week.
If it wasn’t for Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens pulling in $149.2 million on its second weekend, Infinity War would have the highest grossing second weekend of all time.
Black Panther is right under Infinity War with a $111.6 million second weekend, Jurassic World sits in fourth with a $106.5 million gross and The Avengers places fifth with a $103.0 million second weekend. However, adjusting for inflation puts Infinity War’s second weekend tally in fourth place. Force Awakens, Jurassic World and The Avengers are estimated to have sold more tickets in their second weekends than Infinity War. 2002’s Spider-Man would place fifth with Black Panther in sixth.
The 55.5% drop for Avengers: Infinity War is the ninth strongest holdover out of the 19 Marvel movies. The drop is identical to the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, Ant-Man and Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Infinity War was met with three new wide releases this week in the states. The Eugenio Derbez and Anna Faris remake of Overboard placed in second at the weekend box office with a $14.7 million debut. Tully starring Charlize Theron opened in sixth place with $3.2 million and the David Tennant thriller Bad Samaritan placed 11th with a $1.7 million opening. There was also competition from holdovers like A Quiet Place, I Feel Pretty and Rampage.
Infinity War has grossed $453.1 million domestically. That’s the fourth best gross for the MCU and 15th best of all time. Only The Force Awakens pulled in this much money this quickly when it made $540.0 million in its first ten days.
Infinity War has grossed over $1.1 billion worldwide which is good enough for the 15th highest-grossing movie ever.
