I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025) Movie Review

I Know What You Did Last Summer is a film which comes directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson. It stars Madelyn Cline, Chase Sui Wonders, Jonah Hauer-King, Tyriq Withers, Sarah Pidgeon, Billy Campbell, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt. It has a run time of 1h 51m.

This is a movie to watch if you’re already a fan of the previous movies in this series, especially if you’re a fan of I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997). The reason why this is, is because it’s got so many returning actors from the previous movie to see on the big screen once again.

For myself, i’ve watched this in reverse. I have to admit I hadn’t seen the 1997 version of the movie and went in to watch the 2025 movie knowing nothing. I’m sorry for the readers, but I haven’t seen every movie made and sometimes there’s random classics that I have missed completely somehow. This is one of those moments. When I saw the 2025 version, I really didn’t know the context for a lot of what was happening in the movie so found it a bit confusing.

My recommendation is if you’re planning on seeing this movie this weekend, then do take some time to watch the 1997 movie first and then go and see the 2025 one, you’ll have a much better time with it.

Now that I’ve seen both movies, I would say this 2025 version was good enough that I think fans would enjoy it. However, as a horror movie in 2025 it’s not the best one you could go and see, it’s not very scary. There’s a stalker who is following the group of friends that are the central characters and he kills them one by one and that’s all there is to it. However I would say, that when you compare it to the 1997 movie, it’s actually probably about the same level in scariness.

One of the only downsides to this movie was the action. The villain was there and they do have their moments, but the action is very light and it’s a bit slow.

The actors are all okay. The younger newer actors are all good and I didn’t mind them. The returning actors are all well known so they do a good job there. But what I found most pleasant about the performances was the comedic timing for the few funny scenes that were in the film. I enjoyed the humour in this movie it had some good moments.

There’s not much else to say about I Know What You Did Last Summer . I think it really depends if you’re a fan of the series, if you are then I recommend to see it. If you haven’t seen the previous movies at all, it’s hard for me to recommend this because I did find it very confusing when I saw it, I just didn’t know who anyone was. After I did watch the 1997 version, I had a better understanding of everything. But I did think the 1997 version was better. So it’s a tough one to review because I did have fun with this one at the cinema, it’s just that I think many might find it a bit forgettable.
