Insidious: Out of the Further is the latest movie in the long-running Insidious horror movie franchise. This movie was directed by Jacob Chase. It stars Amelia Eve, Island Austin, Lin Shaye, Sam Spruell and Brandon Perea. It has a run time of 1h 46m.
With this movie, I wasn’t very excited to see it initially. I had watched quite a few of the Insidious movies over the years and, to be honest, I am no fan of this franchise. I was surprised to see that another was made. I guess they must do well enough because there are a lot of these movies now. But after I watched this movie, I got a second surprise: I enjoyed this one.
In this movie, the character you will get to know is Gemma. She is a dentist with a young daughter. They move into a new home and, for some reason, the dead are contacting her. It’s a big problem. The story is simple enough, but it’s a stronger story than previous Insidious movies had, which is a good thing. For a horror movie, the story does hold up as fairly decent for the genre. The character of Gemma is slowly developed and you feel a bit for her. The rest of the characters are unfortunately forgettable, though.
The main reason you go to see this movie is for the horror elements. This is a supernatural horror movie. There are scary-looking dead people there to keep you on the edge of your seat. The whole movie feels like a haunted house ride, the type there used to be at carnivals.
The actors are good. Amelia Eve is very good in her role. She handles the scenes where her character needs to be scared excellently. There was some realism to the performance and she did help make this movie something better than I expected.
In the end, if you happen to be a fan of the Insidious movie franchise, I feel like this is the best of the ones I’ve seen. The main character is developed enough for us to care about her and Amelia Eve really was excellent in this. The whole movie is a haunted house experience. It is good enough to see at the cinema and likely better to watch on the big screen than on streaming services. I feel like the haunted house feeling won’t be quite as strong when watching at home on a smaller TV screen.
