Joss Whedon Nearing Deal to Write and Direct a Batgirl Movie

Joss Whedon is in negotiations to write, direct and produce a Batgirl movie for the Warner Bros. DC lineup of movies, according to Variety.

Batgirl first appeared in the comics in the 60’s as Barbara Gordon, the daughter of police commissioner James Gordon, a character who was prominently featured in Christian Bale’s Batman movies by Gary Oldman.

Batgirl has only appeared in one DC live-action movie over the years. Alicia Silverstone holds the honor for 1997’s Batman and Robin with George Clooney as Batman. As to how that went, the title of the clip below sums it up pretty well.

Whedon is best known as the creator of TV shows such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Firefly. He recently wrote and directed the two Avengers movies for Marvel.

The Batgirl movie would join the DC movie universe that houses Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad. Wonder Woman comes out June 2 with Justice League following on Nov. 17. Aquaman hits theaters on December 21, 2018.
