One of my favorite aspect of these monthly games, besides the fact that their free (duh), is seeing what they actually are. It’s a miniature surprise every month. June is bringing some major surprises to the table. Lets start this off with some Xbox Gold.
This June Xbox 360 owners are getting 3, that’s right, 3 free games. First up is Dark Souls, available from June 1st to the 15th. This dark fantasy Juggernaut that teaches gamers how to die, a lot. Known for it’s difficulty, Dark Souls can be rewarding for those who have the patience, skill, and ability to learn from their mistakes. Check out his action role-playing game if you feel you’re up to snuff. The last half of June brings two games to the 360; Charlie Murder and Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition. The latter needs no introduction, but you might be interested to learn it has a large roster of 39 characters and an online tournament mode. Charlie Murder is a side-scrolling beat em’ up, where you play as members of the garage punk band ‘Charlie Murder’ in an attempt to save the world from a zombie apocalypse. The game features both online and offline co-op modes up to 4 players.

Coming to Xbox One this month is Max: The Curse of Brotherhood and Halo: Spartan Assault. Max will be available first until June 15th, is a side-scrolling platformer with puzzle elements. Max having inadvertently sent his younger brother Felix, to another world controlled by its villainous ruler… Mustachio. Now it’s up to Max to make up for his mistake and save Felix. Halo: Spartan assault will be available from June 15th until the end of the month. Taking place between Halo 3 and 4, players play as Commander Sarah Palmer or Spartan Davis on the planet Draetheus V. The Covenant have broken the ceasefire and its up to you to stop them.
All Games with Gold are available internationally.
Sony’s up to bat, and its bringing some heavy hitters this week as well. Why not, E3 is almost here. The Playstation 4 kicks off the party with Trine 2: Complete Story and Pixeljunk Shooter Ultimate. Yup, you read that right, that’s two new games this month. Making June the first time 2 free games have come with PS+ on the PS4. Trine 2, is a side-scrolling action, platform, and puzzle game. Up to three players can play in a co-operative mode to make their way through the game. Pixeljunk Shooter Ultimate is the collection of both Pixeljunk Shooter campaigns. A twin-stick shooter that need to explore and solve puzzles (a lot of puzzle stuff this month)… in addition to blasting anything and everything. Check it out below:

On the PS3 side, NBA 2K14 a basketball game that has received really good reviews. Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time, sees the return of Sly and his merry band of thieves. Thieves in Time is a North American PS+ title, however Lone Survivor (Director’s Cut) is available in Australia. In Lone Survivor you play as a survivor of a worldwide infection that has turned everyone into mutants. Lone Survivor is a survival horror game, in a retro 2D style. The Playstation Vita, for North America, is getting Terraria and Mutant Mudds Deluxe. Terraria is an open 2D sandbox game featuring a deep and dynamic crafting system. Mutant Mudds Deluxe is a 2D side scrolling platformer, following Max (plenty of Max’s this month too) who heads out to stop the Muddy Invasion after a meteor hits the earth. Oh, did I mention Max uses a jetpack? In Australia, Vita owners can get Dragon’s Crown and Surge Deluxe. Dragon’s Crown is a 2D fantasy/action role-playing game developed by Vanillaware and Atlus. Players can choose from 6 different characters and fight through dungeons and labyrinths, grabbing loot on the way through. Surge Deluxe is an addictive block matching puzzle game that’s fast and energetic.
