Kingdom Hearts IV will be released in late 2027 for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, Square Enix and Disney & Pixar Games have announced.
The announcement was made during D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event 2026 on 15 August 2026. A new trailer debuted during the Disney Entertainment Showcase, revealing an in-game world inspired by Disney and Pixar’s Coco.
The action role-playing game follows Sora and familiar characters as they travel through the mysterious city of Quadratum, where creatures known as the Heartless are causing havoc. Sora will also journey to worlds inspired by Disney and Pixar, meet new figures and awaken new powers.
The trailer confirms the return of Sora’s friends Donald Duck and Goofy. Players will also be able to control Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy as they search for information about Sora’s whereabouts.
A D23 panel titled DEEP DIVE into KINGDOM HEARTS marked 25 years of the franchise. The panel was livestreamed worldwide and unveiled an extended version of the Kingdom Hearts IV trailer.
Square Enix also announced that an original anime series with the working title Kingdom Hearts is in development for Disney Channel and Disney+. The project is being developed in collaboration with Tetsuya Nomura and Square Enix’s creative team.
