There Are Some Spoilers In Our Lucifer They’re Back, Aren’t They? Review
So the first episode of Lucifer season 3 has finally aired and fans of the show I’m sure have been excited to see what might happen, especially after a season 2 finale with so many different outcomes for the characters. In this episode Lucifer finds himself left abandoned in the desert and with Chloe’s help, he investigates just how exactly he got there and most crazy of all, just why are his wings back?
Most shows do use their premiere episode to resolve what happened last season, but also set us up for the story to come for the rest of this one. We see things resolved fully with last season’s incident with Lucifer’s mother and also a bit more about what is going on with Amenadiel’s powers. In this one, Lucifer’s wings is a major mystery, but it’s towards the end of the show where we are revealed the existence of some type of villain known as the Sinnerman. The exact nature of this villain is unknown and I imagine they will be revealed as the season progresses, it certainly is interesting.
Another major change this season, or addition, is the appearance of new cast member Tom Welling. I’ve watched Tom Welling on TV for at least 10 years on Smallville so was excited to see him get another role in a new show. In this episode he doesn’t do all that much, he’s basically a new detective in the force named Marcus Pierce. He’s not a very friendly character and so far, actually his role is unknown to me this season. Is he a good character or bad?
This year most of the actors we’ve followed for the last two seasons have returned. Tom Ellis is still in the central role as Lucifer and is as energetic and as funny as ever. We also have Lauren German return for her role as Chloe and she’s always entertaining. We also see Kevin Alejandro (Dan Espinoza), D.B. Woodside (Amenadiel) and Aimee Garcia (Ella Lopez) return in the opening episode and each do well. I do however miss seeing Tricia Helfer in the show, I am not sure if she will at all return, but I would be happy to see it happen.
This was a decent season premiere for the show. I had missed seeing Lucifer’s wit and charm on TV and enjoyed all the quick dialogue and jokes slotted in throughout the episode. The new villain is interesting and the addition of Tom Welling is a great choice. Although, I do miss seeing Tricia Helfer, things do still look pretty decent this year on Lucifer. I can’t wait to see the next episode of the show.
Lucifer airs in Australia on FX on Tuesdays at 7:30PM.
