Maze Runner: The Deathcure Review – Spoiler Free
Maze Runner: The Death Cure is the newest in the series of Maze Runner films and continues to build on the story of the previous two instalments. The film comes directed by Wes Ball who also directed all the previous films in the series. Maze Runner: The Deathcure stars Rosa Salazar, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Dylan O’Brien, Kaya Scodelario, Walton Goggins, Katherine McNamara, Aidan Gillen and Nathalie Emmanuel.
Going into this film I was quite excited to get back into the Maze Runner franchise, I was a big fan of the first film and did enjoy the second one. So I was pretty much ready to go back into the universe when I went and saw this. But what happened when I did end up watching it, was for some reason I was completely lost as to what was going on. The plot of this one is all about finding the “Deathcure” which is basically the cure for all of them getting sick and turning into those zombie like things we saw in the previous film.
For some reason and I don’t know if it’s because I didn’t re-watch the other two before I went and saw this one, but for a long while I was lost. The film starts with this train action sequence, which was okay and I guess it’s an action movie so that’s alright. But our characters seemed to be just on the task of the “Deathcure” plot and so too were the villains. I know this is all part of the Maze Runner Universe lore, but I couldn’t help it, I just couldn’t follow this one well. It just didn’t work for me. I felt that the second film was leading into something great and then I got this experience, but I still don’t know what it was. Possibly I need to re-watch all 3 now, but I just am honestly lost with this one.
I found all the actors to be fairly good. The plot I felt didn’t help them too much, but I’ve enjoyed all of these actors and actresses throughout the whole film series. They’re all great.
The action scenes are all good too, this isn’t on the level of what you would get from a big budget comic book movie, but it’s decent and I guess similar to what we got in the series so far.
Overall this is an okay addition to the film series, although I was personally lost with the whole plot and what was going on. But maybe more hardcore fans than me won’t be, so I completely accept that. The actors all do their best and it’s got decent action scenes. It’s worth seeing at the cinema if you’re a fan of the series so far, or are looking for some light action entertainment this week.
