Nintendo E3 2014 Press Conference Summary

Nintendo started off their press conference with a really funny intro video that was sort of a commentary on what people say about Nintendo and what they do. “Not another Mario game” said someone from the audience and Reggie says “don’t love your tone, but actually no Mario game this year” and then some funny remarks from Mario and other characters which ends with Reggie throwing a fireball into the audience. It’s good to see they have a sense of humour at Nintendo.

Then there is this really cool fight scene between Reggie and Iwata before they introduce Nintendo’s first game which is the new Smash Brother’s.

The new Smash Brother’s is utilising a lot of the Mii’s into the game so people will be able to put their Mii’s into the game and create a Mii fighter of their own into the game. There will be Mii Brawlers, swordfighter’s and gunners. Each of the fighters have different skills and abilities.

They show a few trailers for the Super Smash Brother’s for both the Wii U and the 3DS.

Following the trailers Nintendo unveils a new type of toy which they are calling an Amiibo. It’s a figurine that you put on your gamepad and then you can use the character in the game. Sort of like the Disney Skylanders figures and I believe there is some integration with these and Nintendo. However Smash Brother’s will be the first Amiibo game for the console. Apparently also the character changes over time and restores stats not just on the console but also on the figurine itself. There will be more details soon about the Amiibo integration on Mario Kart 8 as well.

After they finish talking about the Amiibo’s we then move onto a developer story for the new Yoshi game. It’s got a very interesting new art style to the game and everything is made from wool. Even Yoshi himself is made from wool as well. The game is both single player and cooperative. They talk about some of the challenges with the level design and balancing things with the world they created made from wool. Personally I really like the look of this game, it’s very creative and different. I’ve never seen something like it before.

The game will be called Yoshi’s Woolly World and will be available in 2015.

We are then shown a trailer for the new game for Toad which is called Captain Toad – Treasure Hacker which is out on Holiday 2014.

We then move onto the preview for the new Zelda game on the Wii U. We hear one of the developer Eiji Aonuma talk about the game and explain what it was like creating the world for the new console. He spoke about what was possible with the world’s in the early Legend Of Zelda games and then compared it with the newer ones. We then get to look at the new Legend Of Zelda game and how much more open the world has become. The game looks like a very impressive addition to the Wii U collection.

The Legend Of Zelda Wii U

I really liked how in the video the grass was moving and swaying in the wind. It was a very well demonstrated introduction to the game and I’ve not even played a Zelda game before (surprising I know) but this one looks impressive to me. It’s definitely something that I would want to play. The new Legend Of Zelda game will be coming in 2015.

We then get a quick preview trailer for the new Pokemon games which are out on November 21, 2014 and are called Omega Ruby and Alpha Saphire.

We then get to see the trailer for the new Bayonetta 2 video game for the Wii U and also learn that this game will be coming in October 2014 and will also include the original Bayonetta along with it. That is quite good value as I haven’t played the first one but I wanted to and now I have the chance to play both on the Wii U so it’s good of them to bundle those together like that.

We then move onto a developer video for the game Hyrule Warriors which is a new type of combat game for the Wii U. “It has the essence of Zelda and the essence of Dynasty Warriors mixed in” says one of the developers. This game will be out on September 26, 2014.

A trailer for the new Kirby game is then shown which is out in 2015.

We then get to have a look at the new Xenoblade Chronicles game which is in Japanese with English subtitles. It looked good during the trailer and looked like something I could get and something that maybe older gamers would enjoy playing more than younger ones. But it stands out so far in this Nintendo event. I liked the trailer, it has a lot of action in it and the voice acting sounded really cool. The game will be coming in 2015.

We then go back to another skit featuring Reggie and Mario, these skits are really funny and add a lot of humour to the show.  I appreciate that they put these in, so far the Nintendo stream has been very entertaining to watch.

Really enjoying these funny jokes here and there. It’s a very entertaining stream

We then get to take a look at the Mario Maker game. It’s a game where you get to create your own Mario levels and edit different levels in the game. It looks like you could be solving a lot of puzzles as well.

We then take a look at a new game called Splatoon which lets you play as a squid or a human. You need to cover the map with ink and play in teams to win. The team who covers the map in the most ink will win the game. The squids and the human’s have different abilities. The squid team can swim around in their own colour ink and get around the map quicker. Human’s have their own abilities. Splatoon will be out in 2015, it looks like a lot of fun.

The show then ends, but not before we get one last trailer and get shown a new character for the new Super Smash Brother’s game for the Wii U.

Smash Brother’s Palutena Alights

There is one final teaser at the end from Miyamoto for the Starfox games. But it’s all blurred and you can’t see anything on screen, but hey at least fans get to know something is coming and that’s great!
