Office Christmas Party Review

Office Christmas Party is one of the recent bunch of Christmas comedy films to release this year. The film comes directed by Josh Gordon and Will Speck who some may know for their work on the comedy film, Blades Of Glory (2007). Office Christmas Party stars Jason Bateman, Olivia Munn, T.J. Miller,  Kate McKinnon and Jennifer Aniston. The film is about, as the title of it suggests, an office Christmas party.

I do enjoy a good Christmas movie during December and have all my favourites that I love to watch as Christmas approaches. In recent years I have struggled to find new films to add to my Christmas watching list, this year I was really hoping I could add some in there, but it seems not likely with the films that we got. This one’s just pretty much a really a big party at the office and it happens to be Christmas themed, it doesn’t have what I want from a Christmas film and doesn’t have really any great message or meaning. But this movie was made for just a bit fun wasn’t it? I guess it was, but it’s still for some reason not that fun.

There is some joy in there, I mean what’s most exciting about this one is the cast you get to watch. While Jason Bateman isn’t my favourite actor, he does have a few films that I like such as The Gift or Horrible Bosses 2. I also do enjoy watching Olivia Munn who’s always kind of fun and Jennifer Aniston usually is okay too. But even though most of the actors in this film are a fun enough bunch of people, for some reason watching at a party with them all in there just wasn’t that fun.

The plot seems to build up to the Christmas party and most of it is centred around being in that party, but nothing really great happens in it. It’s just us watching a movie where people are at a party and they’re getting drunk and doing dumb stuff. I understand it can be funny at times, but that doesn’t make it great. The directors I think missed the mark on this film, there’s just no drama or any point to it all. Even when a complication is added due to a dodgy group of people being brought into the party and endangering the characters. It’s all so silly that it doesn’t even matter that much.

Overall this is really a film that really you should only give ago if you happen to see it on Netflix or something similar and can’t find anything else to watch, but want to give it a go because you’re in the mood for a comedy that day and you’ve already seen everything else. Sure it’s got a great cast of actors such as Jason Bateman, Jennifer Aniston and Olivia Munn, but as fun as these people are, they for some reason aren’t that great to watch at this party.
