Patty Jenkins is back to direct Gal Gadot in Wonder Woman 2.
The Monster director has closed a deal to direct the sequel, according to Variety. She was already working on a treatment for the film with DC Comics writer Geoff Johns. The movie is set for release on Dec. 13, 2019.

Jenkins could receive a hell of a payday for the sequel. Deadline says a deal was being finalized Thursday morning that would make her the highest-paid female director in Hollywood. They point out Zack Snyder “received $10M against 10% cash break” for Man of Steel, which was his second film with DC Comics and Warner Bros. after Watchmen. Since Jenkins pulled in much better reviews and box office for Wonder Woman, here’s hoping that’s the minimum. It’s worth mentioning that Snyder had a few more blockbusters under his sleeve while Jenkins has one indie, although one that won Charlize Theron her Oscar.
Her blockbuster ranks as the second highest-grossing movie from a female director. Jennifer Lee, the writer of Ava DuVernay’s upcoming adaption of A Wrinkle of Time, holds the record for her debut co-directing Frozen. That animated phenomenon grossed over $1.2 billion when it was released in 2013.
Wonder Woman was released in June and has racked up over $816.3 million at the box office. As of this writing, it’s the 65th highest-grossing movie of all-time. For superhero movies, it’s number 12.
Not much is known about the story for the sequel other than it taking place in America. Jenkins recently talked about the thrill of kicking things off with a fully-developed superhero with Entertainment Tonight.
“The most exciting thing… is literally seeing her loose in the world now, living those classic stories,” Jenkins said. “Here’s Wonder Woman, and what can she do? It should be a totally different movie, but a grand and now full-blown Wonder Woman in the world.”
Jenkins is also directing the pilot of a TNT miniseries that has her Wonder Woman supporting star Chris Pine attached. Jenkins’ husband, author Sam Sheridan, is writing the six-episode show that involves a Hollywood gynecologist doing some dark stuff. No, it has nothing to do with Wonder Woman.
