What is Need for Speed Rivals?

Need for Speed rivals is a game built on the Frostbite 3 engine. Ghost games is aiming to create the best next generation experience for the players. It’s a cops and racers game that is somewhat reminiscent of the old need for speed high stakes game back during ps1. Racers are to become infamous for taking risks in game and are encouraged to record videos for the world to see and show off their racing prowess. Each race, racers do more which raises the stakes of what they are doing which draws the attention of the cops.

How about running from these cops?

It’s the aim of the cops to go after the most valuable racers and take them down in order to gain experience. In doing so players will be able to unlock newer, better cars as they progress (racers also gain points in this way).

What’s new about Need For Speed Rivals?

One word…. Ferrari

Ferrari is back in need for speed for the first time in nine years for the franchise which is a big thing for the game as everyone wants to race with a Ferrari, I mean who doesn’t!

Get ready, Ferrari is coming to NFS

A spokesperson from Ferrari Stefano Saportetti said about the inclusion of the Ferrari brand in Need For Speed Rivals that, “we are back in the Need For Speed franchise, starting with Need for Speed Rivals, as we want the fans of this world famous and award winning racing game saga to be able again to feel the excitement of the Ferrari Brand and cars”.

What new features does Need For Speed Rivals have?

There is a very interesting mixture announced in this game that brings together both online and offline racing together through a feature called “All Drive”. It seems that players/friends will be able to join your single player races as they please, or you in theirs. This is designed to seamlessly integrate online and offline play together for the racing game. It’s a very interesting concept because no longer are you playing the game alone and just racing the AI rivals but your friends can see what you are doing and create a far greater challenge. They may beat you or even catch you (if they are cops), and this raises the stakes in the game, creating potentially a very competitive game environment.

Your friend just joined your race! With a Porsche!!

There is a very big social element to Need For Speed Rivals; the developers at Ghost games have really been pushing to bring the gamers playing the new game closer together and more than ever before. Marcus Nillson the executive producer of the game from Ghost games stated “The Need for Speed franchise has been an industry leader bringing social competition to the forefront in games….players will have the freedom to seamlessly go from single player to co-op to multi player”. It’s clear they are going for a very unique gameplay and competitive experience with this new game.

Autolog also returns to the game and as people know that allows the player to compare stats for the races against their friends so they can try and beat them as they wish, or set unbeatable scores (or so they think).
