PS5 Australian Release Date
The PS5 Australia Release Date is holiday 2020. This means that the console is releasing towards the end of the year, near the holiday season. This places the console’s release at some time either in late November or in December 2020. We will continue to update this story as news emerges about the release date and more updates from Sony are revealed. This post will be used to track the announcements related to the console.
Are there any clues from the release dates of previous consoles from Sony PlayStation?
In previous years, Sony has decided to release its consoles on the following dates:
- PS4 Australia Release Date: November 29 2013, in the US it released on November 15 that year. When the PS4 released back then, we remember it was also teased with a holiday 2013 release date that year and that might mean that we’re in for something similar again with the PS5 Australia release date.
- PS3 Australia Release Date: The PS3 was released in Australia on March 23 2007. In North America the console was released on November 17 2006. With another November release date here, we’re getting more confident that the PS5 Australia release date may be November 2020. Is there a pattern? The PS3 had some supply issues back then so Australia got it much later, we wonder if history may repeat this year as there has been some disruption due to COVID-19, but for now it seems like the PS5 will release everywhere pretty similarly globally as Sony hasn’t said anything else except holiday 2020 so far.
- PS2 Australia Release Date: This console launched on November 24 2000 in Australia and in North America on October 26. That is another November launch isn’t it?
- PS1 Australia Release Date: November 15 1995 in Australia and September in North America.
When looking at these past release dates, we can see that apart from the PS3, Sony has always released a new console in Australia in November. This may be a clue for us to follow and we could assume from here that if they were to follow the same kind of pattern they have been that the PS5 Australia Release date is November 2020. We could be wrong, but Sony has never launched a console in December here and October seems a little early to be calling it holiday 2020…. Unless there’s people going out on holidays that month.
Are there any clues from the release dates of upcoming games?
Yes. Recently CD Projekt Red moved the release date of its upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 game to November 19 2020. This game is a confirmed PlayStation 5 game and if you look at the historic release dates for PlayStation consoles, it can be seen that the new date is quite close to traditional November release dates that Sony has used in the past. It’s possible that the PS5 release date Australia is November 19 2020 on the same day that Cyberpunk 2077 releases.
What’s the latest news from Sony about the PS5?
Sony has been releasing a bunch of new information about their new console and although they have no official release date yet for us, there’s a lot they’ve been teasing when it comes to the new console.
PS5 Console And Controller Design
The PS5 console design has been revealed. The console is primarily white, but also uses black and blue in certain areas of it, it has been shown to us in images as standing upright, but it can also be laid down flat. There are two variants of the console, one with a Blu-Ray disc drive and one that is digital only. It’s likely the digital only version will retail for a cheaper price than the one with the optical drive.
There will also be a new control for PlayStation 5 owners with one being revealed that matches the aesthetic of the PS5 console, with similar colours. It is shaped slightly different to previous PlayStation controls, yet it is also fairly similar.
