Retribution Review

Retribution is a film which comes directed by Nimród Antal. The film stars Liam Neeson, Noma Dumezweni, Lilly Aspell and Jack Champion.

According to IMDB the synopsis of the film is as follows “A bank executive receives a bomb threat while driving his children to school that his car will explode if they stop and get out.”

Over the last few years, there’s been many Liam Neeson action films released and just when I think it’s possible he won’t make another one, I see a poster for the next movie coming soon. I enjoy these Liam Neeson action movies, I look forward to them and try to see as many of them as I can at the cinema. It’s hard though because they often get a limited release and I end up seeing them at home. Still, they’re good at home, but the cinema is always better.

Retribution doesn’t have a complicated story to follow. Essentially what happens is Liam Neeson’s character is driving his family to school and someone calls and says there’s a bomb under his car seat. He can’t get out until he follows a set of directions from the stranger. The movie goes on from there. It’s filled with suspense and the fear of the unknown for the viewer. I enjoyed the story, it’s not difficult to follow and is fun as a one-time watch at the cinema.

The acting in this film is okay. You get the usual Liam Neeson action film performance. He’s confined to his car seat for the entire film, but it’s still good enough. The other actors in the cast were unknown to me, but they were decent enough in this film that I wasn’t bothered by anyone in there.

Retribution is the type of movie to go and see if you’re looking for an action movie this weekend, but don’t want it to be too complicated to follow and also don’t want it to be over the top with violence. It’s a standard action film that works well to pass the time. I enjoyed it for its simplicity and got what I wanted out of the experience. I really like these types of films, they’re not trying to be the best action movie ever made, don’t have the highest budget. But they have a cast that’s good and a story that works well to pass the time. It’s a nice weekend out if you go and see Retribution. I’m happy to recommend this film to someone if they’re also looking for something the same this weekend.
