To Read them in full just click on the headings…
1. White House Down Review
Petey took a look at White House down in the cinema’s and wrote our first review for the month. White House down received a 5.5/10. Petey’s closing thought’s on White House down were:
“I expected stupidity out of White House Down but not on a level where the movie was actually trying to be kind of serious. That’s the biggest problem with White House Down. Its story has been done before (and no, I’m not talking about Olympus Has Fallen) but it didn’t really need that fresh story as long as it’s a fun action flick. It’s the screenplay that really kills this movie with dumb character decisions and boring drawn out dialogue. There are much better action movies out there which deserve your time and money.”
2. The Lone Ranger Review
Petey also took a look at The Lone Ranger at the Cinema’s and based on his experience with the film he awarded it a 7/10. During the review Petey said:
The film could’ve cut a few of its subplots and paid more attention to its characters, but the movie is entertaining beyond belief with great visuals and lots of laughs. I walk away from “The Lone Ranger” with a smile on my face even though I wouldn’t even call this movie “great.”
3. The Sims 3: Island Paradise
Bryan played through all of the Sims 3 Island Paradise expansion and found the experience quite fun, Bryan decided the Sims 3 Island Paradise was worth an 8.5/10. During the review Bryan said:
“I have been living in Isla Paradiso for some time now and I haven’t felt for a single moment that I want to leave. The island paradise expansion has so much to offer the player that they will be spending hours, upon hours, exploring Isla Paradiso.”
4. Broken City Review
Bryan viewed the recently released Broken City starring Russell Crowe and Mark Wahlberg but thought the film could have been much more than it was awarding it a 6.5/10. Bryan said:
It’s movie that’s good to watch, doesn’t really have any stand out moments, but doesn’t really have any bad ones either. I liked it by the end and was satisfied I just wish it had more great points to mention.
5. Despicable Me 2 Review
Petey went the cinema’s to see Despicable Me 2 the new animated film starring Steve Carrell, Petey thought the film was okay scoring it a 7/10. In the review Petey said:
“If your kid isn’t dragging you to the theater, a rental for this movie is perfectly fine. Great voice acting and a lot of chuckles make Despicable Me 2 one of the better animated movies of the year.”
6. Pacific Rim Review
Petey saw Pacific Rim and was pleasantly surprised with the entertainment level provided in the film. Petey was so impressed and entertained that he awarded Pacific Rim a 9.5/10 and in the review said:
“Pacific Rim was exactly what it needed to be. Robots and monsters were kicking some ass and its story and screenplay, while nothing phenomenal, worked perfectly fine for the movie. You’re not going to walk out of the film a changed man, you’re going to walk out of the film saying to your friend “that was fu*king awesome.”
7. The Last Of Us Review
Bryan played through the PS3 exclusive game from naughty dog and found it to be a phenomenal experience rating the game a perfect 10/10. During the review Bryan said:
“Overall The Last Of Us is a game that truly stands out this year in terms of its design, its narrative and realism contained inside the experience. Naughty Dog may have made one of the masterpieces of this generation with The Last Of Us and as a game exclusive for the PS3 it is a strong reason to go out and get one if you don’t have one as of yet. For those that do The Last Of Us is a game I would recommend to anyone looking for a great story and great gameplay experience that is not only well made and of top quality, one I think that should be played and experienced by all.”
8. Continuum Times Up Review
Bryan looked at the TV series Continuum and reviewed the episode called “Time Up”. Bryan thought this episode of Continuum was average scoring it a 5.5/10. In the review Bryan said:
“This episode to me just felt slightly off and missed its mark by trying to be way to obvious in its stories and themes while having what I thought was messy and annoying dialogue between the characters.”
9. The Newsroom: First thing we’ll do, let’s kill all the lawyers Review
Bryan took a look at the season premiere for the newsroom and enjoyed the episode but disagreed with the storytelling, but overall like the episode scoring it a 6.5/10. In the review Bryan said:
“Overall the season return of the newsroom was quite good, but in some parts I think it lacked. I personally don’t like the story telling form chosen for this season but I can tolerate it enough to keep watching it.”
10. Upside Down Review
Bryan took a look at the recently released Kirsten Dunst and Jim Sturgess film called Upside Down. Bryan was left beside himself wandering what he just watched and scored it a 5/10. In the review Bryan said:
“Overall this movie is the type of thing you could just rent and watch and possibly enjoy. Yet it’s probably not the best choice for everyone as I believe it has way more flaws in the film compared to positives as I have mentioned. I could see how some people might enjoy this movie though, some might like the love story and and visuals so it isn’t completely bad. If you’re just looking for something in the sci fi love story genre I recommend to instead watch Gattaca (1997) which is a much better film than this and has similar themes and character situations.”
11. The Newsroom: The Genoa Tip Review
Bryan took a look at episode 2 of The Newsroom for season 2 and thought it quite good scoring it a 7.5/10 which is an improvement on the last episode. In the review Bryan said:
“Overall I did really like this episode, I particularly thought the Will McAvoy scenes were very interesting and I liked that his character was built upon much more. I liked the new character Hallie Shea and I’m interested in watching her interact with Jim all this season.”
12. The Wolverine Review
Petey went and saw the Wolverine and the cinema’s and was left quite impressed with the film saying it was possibly one of the biggest surprises of the year. Petey scored the Wolverine a 9/10 and said:
“The Wolverine” was awesome. It had great character moments for Logan and some pretty fun action scenes. This movie was also a breath of fresh air since it’s so different then most other superhero movies you might see. Most characters were either unnecessary or wasted and the story lost a bit of its greatness during the final act, but that doesn’t stop “The Wolverine” from being the great superhero movie it is.
13. Crusader Kings 2 Review:
One of our new writer’s Dean took a look at Crusader King’s 2 a game for the PC. Dean was impressed with the level of detail in the game and went on the score the game an 8/10. In the review Dean said:
“If you’re looking for a game to pick up to keep you entertained for hours at a time with an almost infinite replay value, pick up Crusader Kings 2”
