Robert Downey Jr. is said to reprise his role of Tony Stark in Spider-Man: Homecoming, and Michael Keaton, who has been rumored to be up for a villain role in Tom Holland’s first solo ride, has fallen out of talks.
Sources from Variety say the size of Downey’s role is unknown and he is expected to appear in the Iron Man suit, according to TheWrap.
Deadline, whose sources also confirm Downey’s involvement, reports that Keaton is not in discussion for the villain role that he has recently been rumored for, and is no longer involved with the film.
Scripted by writing duo John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein (Vacation, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2) and directed by Jon Watts (Cop Car, Clown), Spider-Man: Homecoming stars Tom Holland (In the Heart of the Sea, Locke) as the titular superhero with Marisa Tomei, Tony Revolori, and Laura Harrier in supporting roles. The film is set for release on July 7, 2017.
Downey, Holland, and Tomei appear in the upcoming Captain America: Civil War. The latest from the Marvel Cinematic Universe begins its international rollout on April 27.
