Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026) Movie Review

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is the latest movie in the MCU to release at the cinemas. The movie is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton. The movie stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Mark Ruffalo, Jon Bernthal and Sadie Sink. It has a run time of 2 hours and 25 minutes. Note: This is a spoiler free review so it will be very light on the plot details.

I am always excited to see an MCU movie at the cinema, it doesn’t matter which one it is or what hero, I always go to see them. But for Spider-Man movies I am always a little more excited to see them. I love the character and have been watching them at the cinema all the way back to when Tobey Maguire was Spider-Man. Sony Pictures has always done well with their Spider-Man films and they’re usually of a high quality. They really do put a lot of care into this character.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day, I am happy to say is one of the best Spider-Man movies there has been. When compared to other Tom Holland Spider-Man movies I would say that this one is maybe the best of them all, but it’s hard to decide between this one and No Way Home. No Way Home was amazing because it had all the Spider-Men in there, but this movie is the better Tom Holland Spider-Man story.

I don’t think I am really going to go into much for the story in this review as I will keep this review spoiler free. But it does continue on from the events of No Way Home. Peter Parker has been forgotten and none of his friends even know who he is. The character struggles with his identity and grows throughout the movie as he navigates through all the drama that comes with people not knowing who he is.

Without discussing much of the plot, I would only like to say that I really enjoyed the dialogue and the writing in this movie. There are a lot of talking scenes between Peter Parker and friends or between Spider-Man and other characters. The writing was excellent and things felt smooth and properly thought out.

Another big plus that this movie has, is that it is very well integrated into the MCU. The Spider-Man character is starting to feel like the main MCU character to watch these days and is becoming I think the most central character in the franchise. This is a good thing and it’s always nice in the MCU when the movies connect to others so well like this one did. There’s appearances from other MCU characters like Hulk and The Punisher and they feel like they belong in the movie and not out of place. That is difficult to do and not many movies do this right so I have to compliment, the filmmakers for this area.

The cast of the movie are all great. It stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Mark Ruffalo, Jon Bernthal and Sadie Sink. I felt that the scenes between Tom Holland and all of these actors and actresses was excellent. I think overall this was probably Tom Holland’s best performance in a Spider-Man movie. I was very impressed with him in this one, he handled all the emotional scenes very well and the lighter ones too.

As an action movie in the comic book genre. The action is as good as it can be. A lot of it felt like it was a lot closer to the video games for the fight scenes and I like that a lot. As far as fight scenes go, this was the best I have seen in the Spider-Man movie.

In the end Spider-Man: Brand New Day is an excellent new movie and is well integrated in the MCU. If you can do it, please avoid watching any trailers at all before going in there so you can be surprised by the events in the movie a bit more. I somehow avoided the trailers and got surprised by what I saw and had a better experience than my friends did who watched the trailers repeatedly before going into the cinema. Happy to recommend this movie to any Spider-Man or MCU fan to go and see this weekend.
