Spielberg-Hanks Cold War Thriller Details

The Steven Spielberg directed Cold War thriller starring Tom Hanks now has a title and composer.

“Bridge of Spies” is about a Brooklyn lawyer (Hanks) who is sent to negotiate the release of a pilot detained by the Soviet Union.

Here’s a little history lesson for ya. In the Cold War, the Glienicke Bridge was a restricted border between East Germany and West Berlin and was used by the Americans and the Soviets to exchange captured spies. Reporters called it the “Bridge of Spies”.

Spielberg’s usual composer, John Williams, could not score the picture due to health reasons. Williams has scored every Spielberg film except for “The Color Purple” where Quincy Jones took up composing duties. Thomas Newman, whose last two films were “Saving Mr. Banks” and “Skyfall” (receiving Oscar noms for both), is replacing Williams.

Originally written by Matt Charman (co-writer of “Suite Française”) and later revised by the Coen brothers (“Unbroken”, “Inside Llewyn Davis”), “Bridge of Spies” hits US cinemas on October 16.
