Through the many conversations that take place throughout the movie, characters reveal who they are and you see their strengths, but also a lot of their insecurities.
Olivia Wilde did well to direct the more tense moments in the movie and the pacing seemed just right to me. It’s hard to balance the drama and the arguments between the couples with lighter moments in between. The home where the movie takes place is also nice and cosy, but its small size creates tension by limiting the space available for the characters to manoeuvre. It’s all well thought out and very well done.
One potential weakness is that The Invite‘s raunchy humour may not appeal to every viewer. Some of the conversations and situations could be uncomfortable for those who prefer cleaner or more traditional romantic comedies, so enjoyment of the movie will depend on personal taste.
As far as movies go in 2026, The Invite is the only one I’ve seen of this genre. I like it a lot because so many of the movies released these days are action based movies; even the comedies have action scenes now. For a late-night cinema visit or a matinee, The Invite is the perfect movie to go and see because it won’t shock you with explosions, but it will draw you in with intense dialogue, well developed characters and a wonderful cast to keep things pleasant.
