The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is the second in the new Mario Galaxy movie franchise. This movie was directed by both Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic. The movie includes voice acting performances by Brie Larson, Chris Pratt, Charlie Day, Donald Glover, Anya Taylor Joy and Jack Black. The movie has a run time of 1 hour and 38 minutes.
It’s not often that I go to the cinema to see a kids movie. So this was something different for me to see. I love the Nintendo games and the world of Mario but it’s been a while since I’ve played them very intensely. I have been with PlayStation for the last few years and haven’t owned a Nintendo Switch, so it’s been a long while really.
The first thing I would say about this movie was the feeling I had after I finished watching it. It was nice to sit there and experience the Mario world. The movie is happy and it’s a positive movie to sit through. The characters have a lot of hope and there’s so much colour in the world, it’s amazing. I was very happy with the feeling and the tone of the movie.
In this movie Mario and Luigi need to go to space on a mission to stop evil and rescue a princess. Sounds simple enough, but that is what the games were always about. Along the way their journey has a lot of roadblocks and there are a few challenges to overcome for the characters.
As a kids movie, I think there is a lot in there to keep them interested. There’s a lot of things going on throughout the movie from encountering dinosaurs, travelling in space and everything else that comes with exploring the mushroom kingdom.
The movie is easy to follow, it is for kids after all. It is a joy to watch and is full of colour. The world of Nintendo is a nice one, a world where things are cute and friendly. I felt very happy with this movie and appreciated the lack of negativity from the whole experience. I think it’s great for a family with kids to go and see or even adults who love the world of Mario and Nintendo. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie won’t reinvent animated films, but it delivers exactly what Nintendo fans and families would want — a colourful, optimistic adventure that’s simply fun to watch.
