Caution: There Are Spoilers In The Walking Dead Sing Me A Song Review
Sing Me A Song is the seventh episode of the seventh season of The Walking Dead. It’s an episode the centres itself mainly around Carl (Chandler Riggs), who infiltrates Negan’s (Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s) compound and we get to see a lot of what goes on in that place.
Most of the episodes so far for this season have been based solely on a single character, for example last week’s episode was pretty much just Tara. For this episode though, while it was mostly centred around Carl, it also jumped around a bit to some other characters. We got to see a bit of what Rosita (Christian Serratos) and Eugene (Josh McDermitt) were up to and we even got to see a bit of what Rick (Andrew Lincoln) was doing. This was great stuff and I’m glad they did jump around because for a while, it seemed like the story wasn’t really moving all that much. I mean most episodes so far this season have been just about how bad Negan’s group is, how he collects half your stuff and also again, how bad Negan is…
This episode felt like things were finally moving forward with the characters. The best moment of the episode for me was seeing Rick being out at some place he found far away, where he’s up to something big there I feel. I’m not sure what he’s doing, but he’s doing something. Rosita making bullets with Eugene? That’s great as well, it was hinted during season 6 that something like this might happen, I’m glad to see them finally doing something with the bullet making.
Mostly, this was Carl’s episode though. There haven’t been that many Carl episodes at all really, this is his biggest one in a long while. Chandler Riggs does a great job with Carl and has slowly grown into the role since he started with it back when he was a kid. Here he’s mainly acting opposite Jeffrey Dean Morgan who is one of the better actors in the series, so it was probably a pretty great experience. Again, JDM really carries the episode, he is very menacing and very scary to watch. Every time I see big Negan based episodes, he gives me this strange anxiety feeling and I question if I should still be watching the show for some reason. But it’s just because he’s a good villain. He’s scary, while I hate to see the cruel things he does and I really do hate to see them, he’s good at what he does and I still keep watching, such a great villain!
There’s a little bit towards the end of the episode with Michonne (Danai Gurira). I wonder if she’ll get a standalone episode for the mid season finale next week, or if we’re going to jump straight to Rick and his group? I guess we’ll just have to wait to find out.
