This month saw new trailers from games like Grand Theft Auto V, Batman: Arkham Origins, and a new Ratchet & Clank game and movies like…..hey look a trailer for GTA V. Here are my thoughts on the awesome trailers that were released (to YouTube, not Comic-Con only stuff) in July 2013.
It’s not that there’s a whole lot to talk about in this Batman: Arkham Origins trailer, it’s just that it’s awesome and it deserves your viewing. The game has absolutely gorgeous graphics but without any solid gameplay, we don’t know if this is just CG or the actual game is like this. Either way, I’m unbelievably excited for more Batman. Batman: Arkham Origins comes to the PS3, PC, Wii U, and Xbox 360 on October 25, 2013. BUT WAIT…THERE’S MORE!!!
I’m sure in a smart marketing ploy by WBIE (Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, the publisher of Arkham Origins), they waited until the day before Trailer Talk premieres to come out of left field and silent takedown with one of the biggest news stories (and biggest trailers) of the month. Batman: Arkham Origins is getting multiplayer and we get a sweet new trailer on the side. What we really get from this trailer is that there will be a mode (or possibly the entire multiplayer) of 3 vs. 3 vs. 2, where the Joker and two henchmen, Bane and two henchmen, and good ol’ Batman and Robin will be facing off against each other. The henchmen and the Joker appear to get some gadgets along with their guns while Bane looks like he’ll just go around smashing everybody and Batman and Robin will do what they do best (stealthily kicking some butt). As long as the multiplayer runs smoothly and each team has an equal chance of winning (Batman, Robin, and especially Bane can’t be overpowered) then this will be truly awesome. To reiterate, Batman: Arkham Origins comes to the PS3, PC, Xbox 360, and Wii U (which doesn’t have the multiplayer but that isn’t said anywhere in the trailer) on October 25, 2013.
Grand Theft Auto V received a gameplay trailer this month. The narration (while sometimes entertaining) seemed unnecessary to me and I wasn’t a big fan. I preferred hearing Queen’s “Radio Ga Ga” like we did in one of the past trailers. What has to be commended about this trailer is simply because it has gameplay which means we actually get a taste of the game. The game looks gorgeous and just like the Grand Theft Auto we all know and love. GTA V will be released on September 17 for the PS3 and Xbox 360.
Want a migraine? Then watch the Killer is Dead E3 trailer. It starts off completely bizarre but when we see some gameplay, the game looks like it could be a pretty fun action game. This is why we need gameplay in more of these trailers. I would’ve passed by this strange-looking game but the Devil May Cry-esque gameplay has me interested. It’s amazing what a little gameplay footage could do. The game will be released on August 27, 2013 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus was announced this month with a cool trailer. Fans of the series (like myself) will be pleased to know the series is back to its platforming roots (praise Jesus). It’s a shame the game won’t make its way to the PlayStation 4 and will instead be released as a PS3 title but it’s hard to complain seeing Ratchet turn his enemy into a snowman and destroying it. Oh, Ratchet & Clank, I love you. Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus will be released exclusively for PS3 on December 3 for North America while Australia, Europe, and Japan don’t have release dates yet.
Well, you can now create anything in Scribblenauts. Including a superhero! The new Scribblenauts title, Scribblenauts Unmasked, lets you create your own hero to fight alongside DC’s finest and series regular Max. Geoff Johns and Jim Lee provide narration and create a pretty interesting superhero. As a Scribblenaut and superhero fan, this game looks awesome. Scribblenauts Unmasked comes to the 3DS, Wii U, and PC on September 24 in North America and will eventually come to Europe.
Ultra Street Fighter IV is on the way for those that care. If you’re a fan of Street Fighter, answer this for me. Do you want more Street Fighter IV or do you want a new Street Fighter game like Street Fighter V? That’s all I ask. Ultra Street Fighter IV will be out in 2014 for PS3, Xbox 360, and anywhere you can find an arcade machine anymore.
Ride Along received a Teaser Trailer this month. I was very surprised to laugh as much as I did during this trailer. Nothing gut-bustingly hilarious but I got a few decent laughs. Let’s hope there isn’t an overabundance of slapstick (like Kevin Hart getting blown away by the shotgun which was funny but that joke could get old fast) and Kevin Hart himself doesn’t get irritating. This movie has my attention though. Ride Along opens on January 17, 2014.
I don’t watch Legend of Korra or care about it. So why am I talking about this trailer? Because this trailer shows off something pretty interesting. An iPad app for the show shows concept art, unfinished animation, character bios, and more. Why don’t more shows have this? With all these stupid “Second Screen Experience” things floating around the App store, why not do something as cool as this? Why does the Nickelodeon have a better second screen feature then The Avengers or Prometheus did? Why world? Why? The Legend of Korra’s second season airs this September on Nickelodeon.
Rabbids Invasion got a teaser this month. Let’s be serious here. Who is going to watch this show? The Rabbids games don’t sell well at all with the most recent titles selling next to nothing and kids who are going to be watching this show will probably be very little and might not have even played a Rabbid game. Is anybody else confused to why this show is here? I understand that it will connect with Xbox One but what kid will own an Xbox One when it launches and how would the show get renewed without viewers? The show even airs on August 3 so the Xbox One won’t even be out yet. I’m very curious to see how this show ends up. Rabbids Invasion airs on August 3 on Nickelodeon.
