When E3 kicked off the month of June with TONS of new trailers, I was expecting June 2013 to be HUGE. While it is quite large, it turns out that game developers and publishers gave it all to E3 and left nothing for the rest of the month (and Hollywood added next to nothing this month as well). We still got some awesome new trailers that are certainly worth talking about.
GAMES
Dark Souls II got a new trailer for E3. What I like about this Dark Souls II trailer is that it shows some gameplay. Granted it’s not straight gameplay from the game as the camera is in a strange position but at least it’s gameplay. Practically every other trailer here has no gameplay so it’s cool to see that here. Dark Souls II looks like a fun game with absolutely gorgeous visuals and I’m excited to get my hands on it.

Dragon Age: Inquisition got a new trailer for E3. I don’t know anything about Dragon Age (haven’t played the other games) but this game is looking pretty sweet. We unfortunately have no gameplay but the graphics in this game look fantastic. I do plan on playing the other Dragon Age games but I’m much more interested now due to this gorgeous trailer alone.

Final Fantasy XV looks like it’s going to continue the more fast paced “action” of the recent Final Fantasy games. I personally dig the newer games (although I don’t think they’re that great) and am always interested in the future of this franchise. That being said, Final Fantasy XV looks awesome although I really hope Square Enix doesn’t lose their roots. These games are still RPGs and the more recent games had a pretty decent blend of RPG elements and more fast paced games. Let’s hope Final Fantasy XV doesn’t go overboard with its action.

Halo received a little E3 trailer. What’s great about this trailer is the reveal that that is Master Chief under the cloak. That was very well done and certainly shocking. Other than the cool little reveal (and that awesome machine), we got next to nothing involving the story. Still, it was a sweet little reminder that more Halo is on the way.

Infamous: Second Son is shaping up to be pretty sweet. This new trailer which we got at E3 has great dialogue and awesome visuals. I’m still sad Cole isn’t the main character although I’m liking the new guy. I just hope he doesn’t become too irritating and full of himself like Dante from the new Devil May Cry game. I’m unbelievably excited for Infamous: Second Son and I can’t wait!

Mirror’s Edge FINALLY got a sequel and while we didn’t get a lot from the new trailer, it’s nice to see Faith running again.

Sunset Overdrive received a teaser at E3. As a fan of Insomniac, I’m interested to see how this game turns out (especially since it’s so radically different than most other Insomniac titles). The cartooney style looks like the game will be a lot of fun and the fast paced action grabs my attention more than anything. I’m very interested in seeing more of Sunset Overdrive and hope we get more soon.

Super Smash Bros. received a couple of cool trailers during E3. The reveal of Mega Man in the game is awesome because it’s freaking Mega Man and not that bizarre Mega Man we saw in Street Fighter x Tekken. The other “normal” trailer is what you would expect from Smash Bros. The classic characters are back and beating the living hell out of each other. Besides Mega Man we also get the Villager from Animal Crossing. I look forward to watering my enemies to death and trapping them in my bug net. I’m excited for Super Smash Bros. and it was nice to see something from the new game.

The Order: 1886 was one of the standouts of E3 for me. I love Ready at Dawn, I love history, and I love third person shooters. The Order: 1886 has all of that and zombie/alien type things to boot. I can’t wait to see more of this game and find out more in general (will figures of American history be in the game?) and I hope new info comes soon.

The Walking Dead: 400 Days received a trailer at E3. What I loved about The Walking Dead: The Game is the relationship with Lee and Clementine and my biggest worry with 400 Days is that I won’t get attached to these characters before their journey is done. Still, I’m excited to see what Telltale does next with The Walking Dead and this will certainly hold me over until Season 2 of The Walking Dead: The Game is released.

MOVIES
Escape Plan is the new Schwarzengger and Stallone film where the two help each other break out of a heavily guarded prison. While the movie’s strength is the teaming of the two action legends, the story in the film also has me interested. Cool and new concepts are hard to come by nowadays (I know breaking out of a prison isn’t “new” but two guys teaming up with each other to break out of a heavily guarded prison is “new”). Let’s hope this movie is better than The Last Stand.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug got its first trailer and damn does it look awesome. I love The Lords of the Rings Trilogy and I especially loved last year’s Hobbit film. The Desolation of Smaug continues the magic and is even bringing back good ol’ Orlando Bloom. Visually it’s breathtaking and I’m stoked to see the film when it opens later this year.
