There Are Some Spoilers In Our The Walking Dead – Some Guy Review
So the latest episode of The Walking Dead just aired this week and in this one, we have it focus on Ezekiel’s group from the Kingdom who are still in combat with Negan’s forces. Meanwhile Rick and Daryl still continue with their quest to find the weapon they are looking for.
This is the first of the episodes to focus primarily on Ezekiel, who is still a fairly new character to join the show. Not much is really known about the King and his past, but we do get to learn quite a bit about him in this episode. Although I do think that in developing him here in this episode, they missed a massive opportunity to maybe flashback to his life before he was the King or maybe to a time before we knew him.
In this episode we see Ezekiel struggle with one of the major consequences of war and that is death. Towards the end of last week’s episode, we saw the weapon that Rick and Daryl have been looking for get used on the King and his men. Pretty much his entire force is wiped out now, except for a few survivors and it’s not long before they start waking up as the walking dead.
I do wonder if in later episodes if the King will actually blame himself for what has happened here, will he? Why did he have his men all stand in such an open area when there were high building all around is completely unknown to me, but mistakes happen when you’re at war and this one had a significant cost.
For much of the episode we see Ezekiel struggle to stay alive, his leg is wounded and his men who are now mostly all walkers are coming to eat him. Luckily he has a few supporters still about and they help Ezekiel along the way, but the man has lost confidence in himself and doesn’t really believe he’s a King now. I think it will take some time for Ezekiel to recover from the loss of his people and I’m not sure if the Kingdom will be able to return to the same strength it once had after this episode.
There was some more loss in this episode. Ezekiel’s tiger Shiva is also no longer. Towards the end of the episode when Ezekiel was escaping with Carol and his remaining men, there were a significant amount of walkers chasing them. Shiva jumped in and got some, but was somehow overwhelmed and eaten. It’s a disaster really and I’m not even really sure how it was possible, why didn’t the tiger just run away? They’re not exactly weak creatures. I’m a bit disappointed with it really.
Carol featured heavily in this episode and was mostly flanking the enemy who had the big gun. She did well to pursue them and took out quite a few of Negan’s men by sneaking around. But unfortunately she had to let them go when it meant saving Ezekiel from the horde that was chasing him.
Rick and Daryl have some short scenes towards the end of this episode. Mostly it was them in pursuit of the weapon, which we saw Carol let go. The scene was like something out of an Uncharted game, with the machine gun spraying all over the place and Rick jumping into the car at high speed. It was fun though.
With the “find the gun’ plot now ended and Ezekiel returning to the Kingdom (albeit a bit broken), I think we’ve reached the end of the action saga for this season. I think going forward from here, we might get to see what Negan’s up to or we’re going to go into some sort of phase 2 of Rick’s plan now that he’s got his gun. The war Rick’s group didn’t come without consequences though, the pastor is captured and the King’s men are mostly dead, how will this play out going forward? Either way, I’m looking forward to next week’s episode to see what might happen.
The Walking Dead airs at 1:30pm and 7:30pm on the FX channel on Foxtel every Monday
The show has become pablum. Shooting, shooting, more shooting, and lots more shooting. Characters no one cares about getting offed left and right, no focus on the original main characters and hey?, what happened to Negan and Gabriel? Limitless ammo unless the script calls for it to run out, zombies? oh yeah, as annoying as mosquitoes at this point, speechifying, hi Darryl, nice to see you again, we almost forgot you were around, cartoon character bad guys in spades, laughably predictable plots, killing off the tiger who was the most interesting character in the last 2 seasons, I could go on and on about how mindless this show has become. I held out hope that it would get better, but alas, that is not the case. Buh bye walking dead, I hardly knew ye.
