Benedict Cumberbatch became a member of Pink Floyd on Wednesday night. The actor joined the band’s ex-singer/guitarist David Gilmour on stage to perform one of Floyd’s most popular songs.
Gilmour began to play “Comfortably Numb” in the middle of his five-night run at the Royal Albert Hall in London when Cumberbatch walked on stage to assist. Cumberbatch sang the parts originally sung by singer/bassist Roger Waters, and swayed back and forth in between verses while green lights explode around him. Gilmour played guitar throughout and sang the chorus as he does on the original track. A video was uploaded to Gilmour’s YouTube channel on Thursday.
“Comfortably Numb” was written by Gilmour and Waters for the band’s rock opera The Wall. It was released as a single with “Hey You” in 1980.
Cumberbatch can next be seen in Doctor Strange on Nov. 4. The final two shows of Gilmour’s run will take place over the next two nights. Here’s hoping he brings out another random superhero.
I love this so so sooo much. Thank you! 🙂
