Nine years is a long time to wait. When news and videos stop cold during a game’s development, rumors follow. Is it cancelled? Is it not cancelled? What’s going on? Fans, and pretty much everyone, speculated for years if FFXV had become vaporware. Luckily for us, and truthfully Square Enix as well, the most anticipated Final Fantasy game out of the original Fabula Nova Crystallis announcements. We’ve been finally getting some footage over the past few gaming events. This TGS trailer in particular isn’t the longest trailer, its not the most informative trailer, but it does its job. It contains never before seen footage. It even shows new locations, enemies, parts of actual gameplay, and Noctis N’ friends rolling in a fancy car. Oh, and it looks absolutely fantastic.
In related news, Tetsuya Nomura is stepping down as Final Fantasy XV’s director. Which is great to hear… I’ll tell you why. Nomura’s role’s have been mostly character designer or creative producer. Since he’s no longer needed we can safely assume FFXV’s creative development is over. Story, character, character/enemy designs… they’re all done (or at least done enough where he’s no longer needed). Nomura can now focus all of his time on other projects, namely Kingdom Hearts 3. Hajime Tabata will take the reins in Nomura’s place. Tabata is no slouch, having pulled off a great prequel in Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII and the much anticipated (and hyped, but for good reason) Final Fantasy Type-0. He has high expectations for the game himself, declaring at last year’s TGS that he want’s FFXV to be the highest-acclaimed and best selling game in the franchise.
Still no world on a release date yet. However, Noctis put it best “It’s been a long time coming… almost there.”
