XXX: The Return Of Xander Cage Review

XXX: The Return Of Xander Cage is the third film in a series of XXX films and actually strangley the only one in the series I’ve seen. The third film in the series stars Vin Diesel, Donnie Yen, Deepika Padukone, Ruby Rose and Nina Dobrev. The film comes directed by DJ. Caruso who some may know as the director of I Am Number Four (2011) or Disturbia (2007).

I’ve always enjoyed watching almost anything that Vin Diesel appears in. While his movies aren’t really known as being cinematic masterpieces, they do tend to be a lot of fun and are usually a pretty good time at the cinema. XXX: The Return Of Xander Cage is one of those movies that does try hard to be to just some fun at the cinema, but is it?

I’d say yeah it certainly is in its own way. The film does’t really take itself that seriously, there are jokes all over the place, characters are really over the top and most actors all put in over the top performances as well. I personally didn’t really mind the film, in quite  a few places it had me laughing at all the silliness of it all and even when I wasn’t laughing at all, I could hear others in the cinema enjoying themselves as certain scenes progressed.

There’s quite a lot of special effects in there to see. These aren’t the greatest big budget special effects, by they’re decent and a lot of the action scenes all seem to be in ‘good fun’. I feel that the film’s director DJ. Caruso really did want the movie not to be taken so seriously and kept things silly on purpose for entertainment. At one point Vin Diesel is seen riding a motorycle in the ocean that has ski’s on it so it slides in the water. I’ve never seen anything like and it was so silly, it had me laughing a bit.

Vin Diesel and Deepika Padukone in XXX: The Return Of Xander Cage – XXX: The Return Of Xander Cage Review

Other than being something that’s ‘silly’, ‘funny’ and ‘over the top’ with some special effects and a lineup of interesting actors such as Vin Diesel, Donnie Yen, Deepika Padukone, Ruby Rose and Nina Dobrev, that’s about all there is with the experience. Unfortunately as entertaining and as fun as it is, it’s likely to be a film most will struggle to remember by the end of 2017.

Overall XXX: The Return Of Xander Cage is something you can go and see for some light entertainment, you sit there with your popcorn, your choc top and your soft drink and you have a nice time with the action scenes and few laughs. Some of your favourite actors might be there too such as Vin Diesel, Donnie Yen, Deepika Padukone, Ruby Rose and Nina Dobrev. But don’t expect a masterpiece here or a plotline that will stay in your mind for decades. You will get to see Vin Diesel ride a motor bike in the ocean though, that might stay with you for a while. I had a good time with this one and I think many will as well.
