Fox Changes Release Dates for ‘X-Men: Dark Phoenix,’ ‘New Mutants’ and More

A bunch of 20th Century Fox movies received new release dates on Monday including delays for X-Men: Dark Phoenix and The New Mutants, according to the likes of Collider, Deadline, Variety, The Wrap, The Hollywood Reporter, etc.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix has been moved from Nov. 2, 2018 to Feb. 14, 2019 and The New Mutants moves from Feb. 22, 2019 to Aug. 2, 2019. While Dark Phoenix apparently has to accommodate actor’s schedules for reshoots, it’s been revealed that New Mutants is in a little more trouble than that. Bohemian Rhapsody, the Freddie Mercury biopic starring Rami Malek (Mr. Robot), is now set for Nov. 2 after originally set to launch on Dec. 25, 2018. (Interestingly enough, there was no mention of the X-Men spinoff Gambit, which is still scheduled to be released on Jun. 7, 2019 until further notice).

Fox also removed their adaption of the 2017 novel The Force from their release schedule. What was supposed to be James Mangold’s (Walk the Line) followup to Logan was originally scheduled for Mar. 1, 2019. Fantasy flick The Kid Who Would Be King, the second directorial effort from Joe Cornish (Attack the Block), is now set for that Mar. 1 date after originally being scheduled for the Feb. 14 date now occupied by Dark Phoenix.

Finally, Spies in Disguise, the new animated movie from Ice Age creator Blue Sky Studios starring Will Smith (Men in Black) and Tom Holland (Spider-Man: Homecoming), has moved from Jan. 18, 2019 to Apr. 12, 2019. Faith-based drama Breakthrough starring Chrissy Metz (This Is Us) received that same Apr. 12, 2019 release date.
